Who would have thought that I would overcome my nicotine addiction because my government forced me to ?

It's ridiculous but true !
Since lockdown started here on 26 March in South Africa the sale of tobacco and alcohol has been totally banned and still is banned.
That's almost 2 months !

I had enough tobacco for the initial 3 week ban but then that was extended. Then it was going to go back on sale on 1 May. I went to the shop to buy some only to discover that the ban had been extended.
So now I haven't smoked any tobacco for almost 5 weeks if I'm not mistaken.
So...I guess I have given up tobacco now. Imagine that ! I'm sort of grateful and irritated at my president. How do you thank someone while letting them know that you're not amused either ? 😏

I bet a government party member has a black market business selling smokes and alcohol.. Makes things illegal and then the price goes up and then seel the stuff on the black market and make a killing from the huge profits.. Sneaky hey..

@Adstar yes or start laws punishing anyone caught with a cigarette or a beer
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@Adstar Considering Humans and the things we get up to, that would not surprise me.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though until I see evidence showing otherwise.

wow ! how is that for mind control

@Wraithorn Before that 1.5 year "quit", I was highly motivated to quit.
So at that time, it was fairly easy. I have been back smoking for a year now and I think about quitting "one of these days".

The best times to quit (if not today) is when someone is highly motivated to quit OR if they have some kind of a jump start like you have right now.

Try not to get into a cycle of quitting and relapsing because one thinks, "I can just quit again someday".

After five weeks, you have made it through the worst. At three months you might get this powerful urge to smoke, fight it like hell. No one knows why but at three days, three weeks, and three months, those are big battles. You may not have to fight the three month one.

@CestManan Alright, thanks for that. 'preciate it.

@Wraithorn Anytime :)

Yeah I heard about this. I can't believe your government thinks this is the safe thing to do. It's just going to drive people to the black market.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@SumKindaMunster Yes, the long term effects on certain other things are unknown. It's quite a risk that they've taken. We'll see what happens long term.
Apparently 1 June is now the new date for them to go back on sale.
After such a long time I wonder how many peeps will be desperate and how many will have managed to overcome their alcohol or nicotine addiction.

This is all unpleasant but it is indeed interesting.

Interesting 🤔 how is everything over there ? .... ( people’s mentalities )

Sounds like you’re personally cool about it all. What are others like ?

Eenheid in verskeidenheid.

jou buurman het die beste daarvan gemaak om nie betrokke te raak by drama nie, soos jy gesê het.

ook vir die dwase hier wat dink dat hulle immuun is! SMH

@SW-User Unity in variety. Interesting thought you wrote there. I think the same applies if one looks at the entire planet too. 🙂☮️

It is easier to give up a habit/addiction when one has little or no access to it.

The hard part will be staying quit once tobacco can be sold again.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@CestManan That is true. We'll see what happens then. That will be the real test.

lol what a conundrum...enjoy your new freedom 🙂
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@SW-User Yeah...thanks. 🙂
