A Vaccine for the coronavirus?

Will there be one? How soon?

Is anyone here working in the health field, or in medical research? Anyone here know anything?

I'm not in the medical field GMG but according to what I've read there isn't one. Not yet. Although it's a safe bet that scientists are working around the clock to try find one.

It will take at least a year until it can be ready. Not sure if any company has a product close to testing. But with any drug it is the testing that takes the time.

@helenS a year is optimistic normally 5 years or more isn't unusual. I believe some are looking nucleotide-based vaccines which is brand new technology there is no nucleotide-based vaccine on the market currently. The theory is to grow parts of the virus then use them in the vaccine. This is unlike most others where you mutate the virus to a less harmful version that is not harmful but still close enough to get the immunity system to learn to fight it effectively. The other common method is to kill the virus by heat or another chemical then use the dead virus.

Whatever way still all the testing is the major time factor

This issue has been addressed several times by the scientists on the coronavirus panel advising the White House. A vaccine can be developed relatively quickly, probably within a couple of months. Clinical trials of the vaccine need to be conducted before the vaccine can be made available to the public. That consists of at least two trials with increasing numbers of people. The absolute minimum to do the trials, demonstrate safety, and produce the vaccine for widespread use is a year. Eighteen months is more likely. So we will have a vaccine, but not before the fall/winter flu season of 2020/2021 is over.

Look at cdc.gov for current info
How long do you think it will take to manufacture and distribute a vaccine? Do you think people will go along with getting vaccinated considering the lack of trust in the government?

@SageAdvice OK. So you're just pulling it out of your ass.

What are they waiting for? It will take at least a year to ramp up production and distribute a vaccine to everyone, assuming they even have one ready - which they don't.

@SageAdvice Please provide a citation from a credible source. By that I mean a government or academic publication, or a legitimate journalist. Not "Alex Jones" or "The Tinfoil Hat Times."

If you're going to make a claim that contradicts everything else we're hearing, you should be prepared to back it up.
Its called a "no fly zone for the pacific rim" for a while.
