How would you respond?

I have inflammatory bowel disease. A 'friend' said to me:

"I visited a friend yesterday who has diabetes and had to have his leg taken off. With all its complications its tough. I guess in your case you have to be grateful."

I am livid. I didn't say anything at the time but now want to respond. What should I say?

Chronic illnesses that people can't "see" causes them to act and say things that are ridiculous.

Not that I wish them on anyone, but a day or two of nasty symptoms might make them abit more understanding.

Fuck that noise - what sort of miserable shit would you have to be, to have someone else suffering even more, make you feel better? you should take pleasure in someone else's suffering? It's not a fucking contest to see who suffers more.
