Heard on tv that up to around 1900, nostalgia was officially classified as a mental illness!

A bit. But then there's nostalgia and then there's nostalgia. If you mourn the past to the point where you keep the pig in the parlor, wear high-button shoes and ankle-length dresses with bustles...well...

@Mamapolo2016 I agree there can be a thin dividing line between appreciating the past and its many good points and being obsessed. Don't know about pigs but having the barn on the ground floor helped keep the humans on the first floor warm.

A form of depression when carried to an extreme. Have seen an aunt constantly lamenting about longing for things in the past.
Yeah. Slaves who wanted to escape were considered mentally ill, too. There was even a word for it but I forgot what it is. Pretty messed up.
