Drug resistant Tuberculosis has been found among caravan members on the Mexican border. Is this a health threat we need to address?

The Director of the American Physicians Association, Dr. Jane Orient, says this is real threat. She said that even though the drug resistant TB may be latent in individuals, because they have it in their bloodstream they can break out with the disease at any time.

Tuberculosis, according to Web MD, is a contagious infection that attacks the lungs. It can also spread to other parts of the body, like the brain and spine. In the 1900's, tuberculosis was the leading cause of death in the United States. Today, even though TB is curable, you have to take meds for 6 to 9 months, and the strain among caravan members is drug resistant.

The following are symptoms of Tuberculosis:

If you experience any of these symptoms, see your doctor to get tested. Get medical help right away if you have chest pain.

A cough that lasts more than 3 weeks
Chest pain
Coughing up blood
Feeling tired all the time
Night sweats
Chills
Fever
Loss of appetite
Weight loss

There are no symptoms for latent tuberculosis.

@Stereoguy well😁, you know

It it really unreasonable to do
A criminal check

And check for diseases we’ve spent 100 years trying to squash?

Unless you open up your front door and say come on in , you’re a racist..

Anywho.. whatevz

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout The Mexican authorities are trying to deal with health checks right now. As I feared, the caravan encampments are becoming disease vectors.
I’d still be testing when they got to my gates...@4meAndyou

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I don't want to seem overly excitable, but I wonder how many illegals are already here carrying the contagious TB strain in their blood?

Napalm cures it
I doubt it. It looks to me like Dr. orient is a bit of a nut, and the name of the organization she runs is not even correct.

Did she leave Tucson to make these diagnoses?

This is the woman who sees no connection between AIDS and HIV.

I would be interested to see a link to the article you mention. I can't find it online, however, I HAVE discovered that Dr. Jane Orient inserted herself into the political debate at one point and attacked Hilary Clinton, and following that came under fire from the left.

@4meAndyou That's the way you read that 2nd link?

I swear, sometimes I think we're on different planets.

Here's a couple of links I looked at, none of which I really trust, but she comes up as a kook, so it's not surprising she doesn't have much peer reviewed stuff out there.

@MistyCee The wiki article could have been written by any angry left wing radical. And I could go in and alter it if I so chose, or if I found a factual contradiction with a reference. HE is the one who accuses Dr. Orient of being an Aids/HIV denier, and after reading his article, I trust him about as far as I could swing a chimney by the smoke.

He uses a Washington Post story as one of his references. Most of the references are obviously left wing political rants ie: Rand Paul Linked to Doctors Group that Supports Vaccination Challenges, Medical Boycott Urged for Doctors, The Tea Partys Favorite Doctors, and many more of the same sort.

The blog (second link) is another of the same type, but worse in every way.

The third article is respectable. It doesn't fling insults as the blog did, and it is not a ridiculous compilation of left wing references each worst than the last.

The article supports the fact (as I said), that Dr. Orient inserted her conservative politics into the last election and became subject to the same search and destroy tactics that are employed by all left wing politicians and left wing media.

Absolutely there is a concern. Terrible for them as I doubt they will get any access to any health care.
4meAndyou · F
@pennynoodles The Mexican government is doing its best to treat them. So far there are over 2000 cases of respiratory illness. Only three full blown cases of the drug resistant TB so far, but since it is contagious, it is only a matter of time before that spreads.

Thanks for BA😁

I'd rather we stick to the main reason, they are illegal. We can't count on every herd of people to carry a disease.
4meAndyou · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Normally, when people enter the US legally, they receive vaccinations along with their passports.
emptysoul44 · 41-45, M
Isnt all TB drug resistant
4meAndyou · F
@emptysoul44 No. Treatment with antibiotics for 6-9 months treats normal TB. We are talking about a new strain that is resistant to antibiotics.
emptysoul44 · 41-45, M
@4meAndyou we shoukd just kill and bury those undocumented fuckers!
4meAndyou · F
@emptysoul44 I don't think that is a calm or reasonable suggestion. They are not in the United States just yet. What concerns me deeply is that this outbreak of drug resistant TB is contagious, and we have all heard caravan members say they will get in to the United States illegally with the coyotes if they don't qualify for asylum.

@Stereoguy I agree wholeheartedly. The CDC needs to be at the border.
