Does anyone take Celexa?

My Dr prescribed that crap to me and I don't think I wanna take it
purplepen · 51-55, F Best Comment
No. It's one of those newer and more unpredictable SSRI's that tend to be over-prescribed for anxiety when a common side effect is more anxiety. Abilify is another thing that they commonly prescribe (off label) for anxiety, and it's another under-researched drug that can worsen anxiety or even throw a person into full scale psychosis. I'd try zoloft or paxil before I'd mess with celexa or abilify or any of the new drugs. Also if you're suffering from clinical level anxiety, you might have thyroid issues that the doctors haven't tested fully, so it would be more helpful if they did comprehensive blood work instead of giving you celexa.

@Nebula I think it's different for different people but it scared me off SSRIs. You may find it doesn't effect you the same way or if you are really concerned see if your doctor can prescribe a different older med

Ok. I prefer to take supplements. I've been taking L-theanine and was gonna start to take GABBA

Thank you for taking the time to talk to me ❤

What if it works?
Nebula · 41-45, F
Yeah, I might try it for at least a month and see how it goes

@Nebula Well whatever you decide, I wish you the best. 🙂

Didn't he consult with you about the drug???

Theyre suppose to do that.

Did you address your concerns?

He have an email? An alternative number w/extension for advice?

i think that one made me angry all the time and i had to stop.
Nebula · 41-45, F
I am so scared to take anything....
Coppercoil · M
@Nebula just remember you can stop at any time. it's not like a tattoo.. you try and experiment and find what works.. you go up with a dose you go down.. you get off.. change medications etc. you are always in control.

Alright, thanks ☺

I've taken a couple of other SSRI's although probably not for long enough. I really didn't like the side-effects but apparently they subside after a couple of weeks but i didn't give it long enough. I know these really work for some people but others they don't... or they need to try a different type. It's not my place though to advise you one way or the other. Probably work with your doctor on this one.

@SW-User many take 14 days or more ....

These class of drugs are not instant.

And for a reason.

@sighmeupforthat That's what i was told much later, after i stopped taking them.

Do you mean they intentionally create them not to be instant? Why would they do that?

Rather than a totall unjustified 'dislike' for something that may or may not actually help, look at your problem
analytically.
You presented a problem to your physician, they made a medical judgement based on your need and presumably previous medical history and issued medication accordingly.

Now. The LOGICAL thing to do would be to read the Do's and Don'ts on the info. pamphlet accompanying your tablets.
Ensure you do what it says.
Take your tablets at EXACTLY the same time everyday.
Keep a diary of how you feel; what you do; how well you eat; how well you sleep; how much exercise you get.

See if you can do this for a couple of weeks.
Has to be at least that long in order to notice any effect.

If you can let friends and/or family know you are about to embark on this course of medication, they can let you know if your mood/behaviour changes for the better or worse.

If its prescribed, i assume you need it. Having been there myself Id take it.
Nebula · 41-45, F
I'm just scared of the side effects and getting dependant 😟
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
All i can say is I've had a reasonably positive experience. You just need to weigh up the pros and cons.

Ok thanks

I dont know what's that so I can't comment. If you are not happy with your doctor take second opinion of another doctor.

Keep a close eye watch on your weight hun.

Through experience with others...I don't feel that SSRI's have worked for their anxiety...

I've done some research and found Arsenicum Album and Aconitum Napellus but (my W) refuses to try (which is frustrating) and I've also noted that Magnesium and Niacin are very important, and can help (also refuses)...then there's Valerian Root...which you can get in tea..

My brother did, didn’t make a notable difference

I took celexa, until the more refined form Lexapro came out. Did an excellent job for me.

What's that?
