I find it fascinating to learn about different words and phrases from different parts of the world. I've learned more about that from the Internet than I ever did in school. Lol :)

@NankerPhelge Oh yeah, I've spent time in Cairns and Port Douglas in Australia and it takes some time to understand what the hell they're saying. "Let's go to the servo for a pack of durries and an amber!" Translation: Let's stop at the gas station for some cigarettes and beer.

A fun one from my country, you ever heard someone who is asexual referred to as "ace?" I'm an asexual myself but I hate when people call me ace because in Romanian, "ace" is slang for when you're giving someone a blow job and you suck their balls too.

@BlueMetalChick I've never heard "ace" in either of those contexts before. I can see how it's phonetic abbreviation for "asexual", that's the kind of thing Filthy, Rich and Catflap would come out with in their show (it was on TV in the 1980s). I'm not familiar with the blowjob meaning of "ace" though. Where I come from, "ace" means "top" or "champion" (such as an ace footballer or an ace musician). I think that meaning was derived from the playing card. Lol :)

I guess the Australian slang "servo" is short for "service station", I haven't heard the word but I can imagine an Aussie saying it. I know they referred to Foster's beer on the TV commercials as "the amber nectar". Foster's is one of the three brands of lager I drink most often these days.
