Well they are violent. They lose control and get totally insane. So that's why in my simple opinion makes them mentally ill. Because you see, we may lose control (who hasn't) but hitting someone! And worse as a way for punishment. Too dangerous, weak and are hidden in that fake bravado.

Not all men are ill.. I have seen woman who hit man who were mentally ill... But if suppose in a situation like where a woman is sleeping around with other men inspite being married , won't that be a reason?

I don't know if mentally ill is the right term for them. More like personal issues and those can range from a number of things. Controlling, domineering, insecurities, just plain sadistic...
