Empty Arms- Ivory Joe Hunter

Wish this was my 78. I have a lot of them. But this one is not. But how great is still sounds! But Ivory Joe was special. His piano playing was instantly recognizable! And still is to those of us old enough to remember. This one can still bring a tear now and again.
@Duchess Yes, I remember all 4 speeds. I have two 16 rpm records. One is by The Paul Robeson Orchestra. Paul was VERY controversial in his day-made a lot of enemies. But also had respect among a lot. The other I forget- but it is a waltz and a fox trot. they play VERY SLOW.

Love the older music. 🎼😍

@Elandra77: Oh wow, Bette Midler's "The Rose!" Very beautiful. 💓💐
@sweetpea:Yes, I think she does it better and with more feeling. Of course, she had been singing a lot longer than Bette.

@Elandra77: I never knew that. Funny how people are exposed to different music.

I used to have a turntable that played 16rpm records too.
But I only saw one or two records in that speed.
I think they were short talk stories though.
@wiltingrose great how he takes a soulful tearjerker and turns into a partly happy and hopeful song. Glad you liked it.
i have no 78s but i remember them. my turntable only plays 33 and 45s. rememember when turntables played 16s?

Pretty boss. Those old Atlantic sides are timeless classics, more often than not. They had great production techniques to get the most emotional delivery possible from the performers. I have a handful of 78's (mostly duds, apart from a few great and bizarre platters) among my collection of several thousand LP's and 45's.Glad to say I never wavered in my love of vinyl recordings-although I have mixed emotions about the current upsurge in popularity.
@arthurca I have a few that sound that good. Ones I did not appreciate that much as I was too young To appreciate how great they were. Two by The Ink Spots comes to mind. "We Three(My Echo. My Shadow and Me)" is one of them.

But I do envy this gut and is great 78's Wow!

Thanks for listening. Ivory Joe was special.
