I Wonder About The Meaning Of Life

We are all alone in this world seeking companionship and struggling to find meaning. And yet we are all together in these feelings and fears. We are all afraid of the same things and mostly long for the same things deep down, we really all want the same basic things.

We disagree about the details, the fine points, but in the big sweeping pictures we agree.

We are all terribly afraid of being alone. Of reaching the hard place in life, we all get there sooner or later, some not until we lay on our death bed. But we all get there. We are all terribly afraid that our friends will not be there when we need them. We are all afraid of not being enough, not measuring up, not making the cut, not being liked.

Even those who embrace the fear and say that they are already alone and have nothing left to lose are still afraid whether they admit it or not.

What can we really know in this world. We never really know another's intentions or beliefs or feelings. We know only what they may tell us. Only what they may reveal or claim. We only really know our one thoughts and feelings. Even then, do we know ourselves? How many of us know what we want in actuality. How many of us reach our goals or obtain what we think we desire and are left empty and wanting?

What do we want? We want pleasure, we want meaning, we want to know what is real, and we want real companionship. People who want to know us, find us interesting, and won't leave us when things turn out differently. Is that not what we all want?

How can we know what is real? How can we find meaning? Why is pleasure all short lived...

We get disappointed because we expect everything to last. But we ourselves change and therefore if things lasted, it'd be stagnant eventually.

Everything we feel or experience is surely real. To us, at that moment, that feeling was very real. We begin to find meaning when we begin to build on these feelings.
The only way to build any depth is to allow yourself to be vulnerable, taking the leap of faith and not being afraid of hurt and pain. For surely, they are just as part of our lives as the pleasures we seek, and often better teachers for the depth in us.

@Unlearn From where? I just wrote this off of the top of my head. Though to be fair I may be unintentionally reiterating something I have read elsewhere another time.

@Challenger1 I don't expect someone at your age to come up with it...
@Unlearn I am more than my age. :)
