I Don't Eat Enough

For someone who is overweight, I actually don't eat much. A recommended day's worth of calories for someone my height and size is about 1700. I realistically only consume between 800 and 1200 a day.

A typical day's diet for me is something like this:

Breakfast- 1 cup of coffee with non dairy creamer

Lunch- 2 silver dollar pancakes, fresh blueberries, 2 veggie sausage patties. Water to drink.

Dinner- 3 clementines with water to drink

Sometimes I eat a full dinner (always low calorie, like shrimp and veggies), but mostly just fruit.

This has been a continuous pattern in my life. In my 20s I was eating this same kind of diet and also running 6 miles a day. It was not enough calories. I fainted a lot, my hair grew thin, and even my teeth were getting loose. My period stopped. Technically I was living like an anorexic but since I never got my weight below 170 lbs (I'm 5'9 and my recommended weight is 140), I was never diagnosed as an anorexic.

People think that every overweight person is overweight because they eat too much, and that is just not true. My particular weight problem stems from a hormonal disorder I have called Polycystic Ovarin Syndrome. Women with this disorder tend to gain weight easier than average women and also have more trouble losing it. I would essentially have to do three times the amount of exercise as a healthy woman in order to lose an equal amount of weight as her.

PCOS is a curse to those of us thst have it. There is so much more to the dynamics of a person than what is perceived on the outside.
