I Wonder

I wonder why it is hard to remember the exact time when we realised that lies could be useful to get what we want, and that adults often lie and break promises and do not feel bad about it.
Isn't it one of the most important days in our lives?

the idea of migrating to a place with honest citizens often comes up in my mind several times a week. maybe you could actually do that

We began teaching our children not to lie around age 3. That is usually when they start to lie about not having done something wrong. Lying only feels natural if you haven't been taught that doing so is wrong. We know our children will lie to us sometimes, but we also know that they will feel guilty for it, so they do it less. Not lying makes life much easier because you don't have to remember the last lie you told to avoid getting caught. I don't believe the day I learned I could lie was a wonderful day in my life. I think the day I learned not to lie was the best day ever. As a child we do see adults misbehaving, but fallowing in their footsteps, or not, is a choice we make ,usually fairly young as well. I chose not to follow the examples of bad adults in my life and only focused on the examples of the kind, loving, honest adults in my life. I have found that I can have an awesome life without ever lying and this is what we teach our children, as well.

@SW-User Sigh... it is so sad that we (as parents) can't completely fix it.

It saddens me when my son still tries a lie. He's not really good at it either. But you're right... we have to keep working at them so they realize it's not worth it.

@SW-User Our efforts will pay off ,for them ,in the long run. ☺

It is in school as a student that I see rules and moral values are still taught and applied. I wonder why they teach us that when in the working world, I see the ones with low cunning getting their way. Not the ones with high vision. Yes. You are so right. sometimes I think if it is foolish of us to even believe truth and goodness still exist in such a fallen world.

@novembermoon it is only the low-cunning individuals who get caught. Hence we think it's only low-cunning folks getting away with some of it.

@novembermoon We need to believe in honesty. There are many who still believe in honesty, but they are the less noticed

I am on the opposite side of the spectrum.

All humans can fail. All humans can be brought to lie.

All lies are not bad.

The neighbors who lied to the Nazis so a house would be skipped... was that so wrong?

As humans in general (that magic Adam/Eve moment?) or individually?

Young. (At least for my son). Much earlier than even he could probably remember. (Considering he barely remembers vacations from two years ago)

@SW-User Individually. You are right, that moment comes early in our lives

hi Cierzo
i never really grasped that idea as it requires cunning I do not possess.
Seems to be the best outcome could be a win loose.
Honesty offers win win outcomes.
Best wishes
:)

@sogdianrock I agree. I mean the moment in our childhood we realise in adults that promises can be broken, and lies can be told, and they feel natural.

hi Cierzo
i had a childhood in which I considered consistency and honesty to be highly valued and so again no I did not experience the moment you describe.
Best wishes
:)
