I Love Anime and Manga

I finished "Pluto" yesterday. It's a manga written by Naoki Urasawa. If you are a fan of good science fiction stories, then I can only recommend this Manga.

It's the 2nd story that I read from Urasawa and I think I'm going to buy "20th century boys" next. I can only say that he's really good at what he does. Both series have excellent pacing, great character development and the author knows how to create an emotional responds. Both series are complicated, he seems to really love making the reader squirm to grasp the big plot that he's weaving.

Pluto is a reimagining (or loosly based) on an Astro Boy title. I never read Astro Boy, so I can't tell you if it's similair or not. But from what I read on the internet, the plot Urasawa creates is way more complex and mature. It mainly focuses on a hyper-advanced German robot called "Gesicht" who is trying to figure out what happened to another hyper-advanced robot model that was killed in Switzerland. After a few days another special robot model gets killed/destroyed in Scotland. In the mean time the creators of the robots also get murdered... creating an intresting crime-detective story.

In the story the robots are often portrayed as "the other", while humanity is the leading force in the world. Robots are highly underestimated by the humans who don't seem to understand that development in AI has made robots more sentient that humanity can understand. Robots are treated like 2nd ranked citizens and there is even law that is created to give the robots basic civil rights to protect both them and humans from opressing eachother. The main question that is asked (next to the clear references of the idea of the excistence of the concept: "sub-human") is: "Nothing comes from Hatred". Most of the plot talks about deep rooted hatred from one another and what the consequences are of this emotion if you let it consume you.

The ending... in my opinion, is a bit strange. After thinking about it, you understand what the writer is trying to say. But in overall this series is really good but not as good as "monster" for me. But if you like science fiction, this is a must read!

The artwork is also really good... but just like monster. The artist has a verry generic way of creating faces. Which can kinda confuse. His portrayal of faces is probably the only thing that can be criticised because the rest of the artwork is pretty good.
