I Love Anime and Manga

Finished "Monster" today by Naoki Urasawa. Well this is one of those other series that is highly recommened out there if you want to read Manga. So I just jumped into it. I didn't really know what it was except that it was a psychological thriller. I searched up nothing about the content, I just found it on a lot of top 10 list of "must read" lists. And well... if I make a "must read" list, I think this is going to be on there too. It's just that good.

The only small minus (at least for me) is probably the artwork. Like the artwork is really good in a lot of places. But the man can't draw a lot of faces. And faces are probably the most difficult part of someone that draws graphic nocels. But Naoki Urasawas' faces are difficult to recognise sometimes. In certain parts in the book you have a diffrent character that almost has the same face as another character from a few chapters ago. But this is really a minor point, the story makes up for all of this. And everything that doesn't have to do with faces is still drawn really well. It's just annoying that sometimes you get lost by confusing a character from a few chapters ago with a new one, and then finding out that they are not the same person. But that's really all I could complain about.

I've went over some reviews and some people say that the ending is bad... I honestly think it was really good. Maybe the last page shouldn't be in there? It's a bit to much? But in overall, it makes sense to me... and it keeps you pondering. I kinda had to shed a tear at the end too... this thing really got to me.

I think it's best not to spoil stuff... it's one of those stories that need to come in as raw as it is. And it is extremely raw.

The only thing you need to know, is that at some point a highly talented Neurosurgeon tries to do the right thing. After a traumatic experience where the higher up staff of his hospital prioritises one life to be to be safed over another without his knowledge. He comes to grip with this fact after being confonted by the relatives of the man he didn't save. In this momen of conflict he decides that all life for a doctor should be treated equally.

One night two cases are brought in that need immediate care, but one case was brought in before the other. The higher ups decide that the last case should be treated first because of the status the person has in society (he's the major of the city). The other case is a kid who got shot in the head but came in first in the hospital and preperations for the surgery were already begun. The doctor denies the orders and serves the person that came in first, for all lives should be treated equally. The boy survives the politician does not. Because of politics inside the hospital the surgeons' road to succes is shut down because he denied a direct order.

Even tough he uses this descision to find reason in life, knowing that he did the right thing. His descision will come back to haunt him in the worst way. As the child grows up to be one of the most sadistic and highly inteligent serial killers I've ever encountered in a story. Ten years later, the doctor will face the consequences of his actions, no matter how right they were.

This story is super complex and you shouldn't spoil annything for yoursef. Just go read the books, and ponder about it later. Because there is a lot to think about after finishing it. The story is just really deep, most characters are really deep, there is just so much to try and get your head around. If it won't give you the chills, you either didn't understand it or you have the same problem as the antagonist of the book. It's horrific and sad. So so sad.

What happened to this doctor happened to me or very similar! I ignored the directions of the hospital director and refused to give preference to a public figure in the community and I believe saved a childs life because of it! I can't share more because it was public and I need to be confidential. I was let go! But I was very blessed in the end and the story is in my post how God answers our prayers!
That's giving me the chills already. 😕

@Vivaci This was really good Vivaci... but 😖
@Kwek00 It's scary how no one can guarantee how crooked or twisted a child can turn out to be.
