being an EP volunteer was really weird

send out messages to people every day. It was a premade message too that you wrote, you got new profiles in your queue and you just clicked some button to send your message. some people were normal, some were creeps. i barely remember any of either, but there was one girl who left a big impression.

She was somewhere around my age, maybe older (as most people were back there). She responded to my introduction saying that he was a Christian and her boyfriend was an atheist, and she wanted to convert her boyfriend to Christianity. She wanted me to help her come up with arguments she could use. I felt a bit bad reading this because I knew she was probably just embarrassing herself and making their relationship tense with a bunch of shitty arguments.

So I tell her that I also happen to be an atheist, but I'll help her anyway. Instead of coming up with arguments for her to use, I'll let her run arguments by me and I'll tell her if I see any flaws. That way, she'll know she's using only the best arguments. She took me up on that and iirc she tried a few arguments, but I picked them apart. She eventually stopped replying and I felt a little sad because it was a nice little amicable debate between us. But I like to think that I succeeded in my goal of protecting their relationship from a fight that wasn't worth having and maybe even de-converted a fundamentalist. I thought she was kind of cool, reaching out to someone else in that way.
