I Am Sad

The problem with trying to fix depression is the times you feel ok for a while, in contrast to the days you feel like the world is caving in again. It's like climbing for days only to fall further than you've gotten, somehow it's harder to be 'back' down than it was to be down in the first place.

My wife is clinically depressed. She has been hospitalized twice and is on meds. Eventually learned how to be proactive -- what things to do in order to make it less likely to relapse. It took a lot of time, and I would like to think that I had a positive effect as well.

Shortly after being released from the psych ward, and being new to the medications, she was very self conscious about her depression, aware of the social stigma. She confided in a friend who is a nurse, and the friend said, "I work in the emergency room, and part of my job is to get a list of medications the patients are taking. Everyone is on something! Don't feel bad about it!"

I'm not on anything, I was determined to get through without the rubbish that they offer you here. I didn't want to be numb..I just wanted to learn how to deal with the feelings as they come up and I felt meds would cloud my mind somewhat. I have been doing well, I've just hit a bit of a wall.

I'm glad your wife is doing better.

I know the feeling. Specially when you get you hopes up momentarily and it goes downhill again.

@Kuronekko: true that. It if unfortunate though, people who go through same thing should support each other. Most times people don't even put in the effort. Specially online it is more volatile in times of effort.
We should talk, what do you say?

@nightwing316: I find it hard to put in effort and then I feel bad so I tend to keep relationships to a minimum

@Kuronekko: Lets try at least. Will send you a message if it is ok?

But there's such a clarity of existence when you're at those depths. The depression feeds off the realization of how bad everything is, and how clueless everyone else is.
My thoughts on it. YMMV

Pain certainly adds depth to a persons perception, so long as that person uses introspection.

I'm sorry Kuro, I hope it passes soon. If only cheesy jokes helped...

that's terrible lol

@Kuronekko: a giggle and a wiggle? No?

@SwanSongRebeL: I was literally just thinking that lol
Hugs.. Add hot chocolate powder to your coffee? :)

@MrsNel: that does sound lovely ❤
Yeah 🙂

Perfectly expressed.

No problem.
And big hugs to you for being so open about the reality of depression. Instead of saying something trite about things getting better soon, I'll just offer a little understanding.

@hisgoodgirl: That in itself is refreshing, just about the worst thing someone can say is "there are people with much worse lives, what are you depressed about?". That's just a massive red flag of misunderstanding the whole concept.
hisgoodgirl · 46-50, C
Indeed.
The world isn't a triage center where we're trying to decide whose condition is worse and needs the most urgent care. All we can do is try to understand and support one another.

it might be a chemical imbalance causing it
SW-User
well yeah, that's depression.
