I Want More Self-confidence

It saddens me to see so many people that lack self confidence. For me I believe it to be a building block to a healthy and happy life. You need confidence in yourself in order to be bold enough to go for the things that you want. For instance going after a beautiful woman who to others maybe out of your league or a promotion that you may not be qualified for but believe you deserve this. For most they lack the ability to see something they want to achieve and go for it. When you complete something you feel very satisfied and if you keep that moving it will snowball into a beautiful thing. It is hard for most for this to happen. It is something that I see in a few of the boy scouts that I volunteer with. Quite a few of them don't see themselves capable of even setting up a tent. I'm not sure where it stems from but I would like to make everyone that I come into contact with to see the potential in themselves to make them the best person they can be.

I think this happens if you've been raised in a responsibility-free environment. If you have somebody who always do things instead of you, later you realize that you didn't learn important things when it was time to learn them and that makes you feel inept. Then you start to believe that your skills are inadequate for your age and that leads to general underestimation of your abilities. At least that's how I see it. Genetics play a role too, though.
Genetics does play a role. And I agree with your statements about their home life. You can see the lack of responsibility. It amazes me that a simple task of stacking fire wood into different sizes can seem like an impossible task. Many kids need to be taught self reliance and at least some skills that they can use to build on.
