I Relationships And Dating

How long do you think a couple should date before moving in together?
bigjohndl · 70-79, M
Most couples that live together and then get married end up divorcing. Just remember that living together is no commitment on anyone's part. A woman should give a lot of thought to living with a man that will not commit to marriage. He is only in it for what he can get from you.
@Straylight I was into women long, long ago. Not anymore. Knowing that (hard and fast) gives you cause to pause more. You are welcome.

@Straylight Nothing takes the romance out of an affair like living together.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@bigjohndl You are right. But try telling that to any young woman in love.

Only my opinion
they should never move in together
That0ne · 26-30, M
I don’t think there’s a set time it should happen as it depends on a lot of things like location, financial situation, age. Whenever it feels right I suppose.

Just until the wedding

My rather old fashioned view is if you are ready to live together, you are ready to get married. Some studies I've read indicate that a courtship of between 6 months, and a year and a half is the optimum time for a stable marriage.

Again, from our culture's pov. You cannot move in with your so until marriage. But thats the old ways, like the 70s or 80s. It's a different era now Hahahaha

What ever feels right for each individually. Communication is the essential part. Good cooking and cleaning habits are also a plus for both.

As soon as they want to. getting married is very serious so by moving in with each other if it doesn't work out, no nasty divorce to go thru.
english · 56-60, M
not sure its that cut and dried ,ive moved in with people the same day other times 3 to 6 months no rules cowgirl . 😇
Straylight · 31-35, F
@english I think we're going to take it slow.
A long time. You cannot really know a person until you move in with them.
BlueMark · 56-60, M
@PoetryNEmotion then surely they should move in quicker than a long time ?
PinkMoon · 26-30, F
As soon as you're engaged. Then you give living together a trial run before marriage.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@PinkMoon Living together and being married are not the same kind of experience, though they do have many things in common. I have known couples that have lived together for years (ten years in one case) who got a divorced after less than 2 years of marriage.
BlueMark · 56-60, M
Met my late wife and she moved in 3 weeks later.

Straylight · 31-35, F
