I Am a Video Gamer

Good morning!

Whats the most important quality you look for in a game?

For me its an excellent story. Beautiful graphics are a plus too, but it has to have a story that hooks me

I'm more of a single player gamer. A loner in all ways possible lol.

How about you?
SW-User
I'm mostly an RPG gamer, so I love a good story too. If the story isn't original, that's fine, but it has to be well-told and I have to like the NPCs I'm roaming around with. I've dropped a game or two for having insufferable companions.

I also grew up with Pokemon so I have this incessant need to just collect shit, so that's always a plus.

@SW-User lol about the insufferable companions. I'm a collector too! I have to explore every area thoroughly or I'm paranoid that I've missed something. It drives my sister crazy

Games should be emotionally engaging. This can happen through a variety of ways, but the best way is really, really good writing. I like multiplayer fine, but my favorite games have always been single player. Top single player games resonate more.
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@CountScrofula I agree! You sound like one of my professors lol
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@coffeedimplez lol hopefully a cool one who isn't a jerk about essay deadlines.

Hey Alex I had a little crush on your friend Chloe.
How's she btw? She still has blue hair? Did you choose her or the city at the end of Life Is Strange? I chose her! I really loved that game and chapter 2 when I got to know more about Chloe however after that the game started having many different parts and stories and I lost track of it.

I'm definitely a loner player aswell, I love simulation games. Currently I'm playing Euro and American truck simulator(s). Have you tried Among The Sleep or Far Cry Primal? I never finished them but they were interesting.
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I chose to save the town 😭 I loved that game! The second one was amazing too, I just finished it.

I have play a little Far Cry, but it didn't hold my interest for some reason. I think it was the open world hunting aspect of it. That never really been my thing, with the exception of Monster Hunter

Not too different from yourself. I too need a well rounded story...fleshed out characters. I love a game that has a story and lore that creates an entire world. On top of visuals it's also scope...I want a huge area to explore and get lost in.
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yes we're similar! But I'm kind of funny about open world games because some of them have a huge map but everything is so far apart that it feels empty or repetitive. I prefer a semi open world that has a clear path but also allows you to stray or back track. But if the world is full enough like with Assassins Creed or Watchdogs that's different lol
SW-User
@coffeedimplez Yea some get a bit carried away just so they can brag about size. But damn...some games like Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead Redemption 2....I don't even need to do anything when I play those games. I'll just ride around finding pretty scenery to take pictures of 😂
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@SW-User I have yet to play Horizon, but I really want to
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Story is probably the most important element. Worldbuilding, graphics, audio are essential elements, as well. I prefer the game play to grow organically out of the worldbuilding and story rather than to be something just shoehorned in to make it "game-like."
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@DunningKruger Yes definitely. And I think people under estimate how important audio is in production.

Can. I. Play. It. Alone.
Lugubrious · 31-35, M
Is your profile photo from Life's Strange?
Lugubrious · 31-35, M
@coffeedimplez I haven't started yet, but they're all free on Xbox Game Pass right now.
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@Lugubrious What? Wow even the new one?
Lugubrious · 31-35, M
@coffeedimplez There were quite a few. It's Season 2. I think the others must've been chapters or something.
Same here. I could play Assassins Creed Brotherhood for hours on end no problem
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@coffeedimplez brilliant story. Still yet to get 100% completion though
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@DaveyWavey01 Same here
BearDownChicago · 41-45, M
Graphics for sure. And realism. Not like it puts me in the game but more of saying outloud, yeah I can see that really happening in life
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@BearDownChicago Yeah I understand that. I prefer realism as well.
Carver · 31-35, F
Good gameplay. Story and graphics are a plus too but they’re not a necessity. The gameplay is what matters most to me.
lasergraph · 70-79, M
I am not much of a gamer. The CGI today is amazing. We have come a long way from Pong, which I had by the way.
SW-User
Entertaining gameplay.
coffeedimplez · 26-30, F
@SW-User But what is entertaining to you?
SW-User
Something fun that makes me want to keep playing @coffeedimplez
DDonde · 31-35, M
It has to be fun to play. I tend to play games with lots of replay value rather than stories.
Eg: roguelikes, strategy
Edit: I'm also a big fan of games with an emphasis on exploration, like metroidvanias

@SW-User What part of the development process? I am artist first and foremost, but I do have basic skills in c# and C++ (visual scripting)
