I Have Epilepsy

My trip up to Stanford yesterday was encouraging. I met with the neurosurgeon who will be operating on me. He made me feel a lot better about the situation and the procedure. He asked me questions and answered mine. He showed me the chip he would be implanting. It was about an inch and a half long, about an inch wide, and had a little bit of a curve to it to match the skull. It will be implanted pretty much above the back of the ear. There will be two wires that are directed towards both sides of the brain, that will sense when seizure activity starts and will basically tell it to stop. To not turn into an actual seizure. There will be a device, kind of like a remote control, that will record any activity and I will send that back to Stanford for their records and research. It fascinates me to no end!

I have a number of things I need to take care of here at work before I can do this, as I'll be in their hospital for 2-3 days, then I'll need to recover for at least a week or two, perhaps longer, before I can do anything real heavy. I'm thinking I'll schedule it for later January. We'll see how it goes.

Here we go...next step.
Many, many best wishes coming to you. I hope and pray for you and you’re so brave. I have so many things wrong and I’m a big chicken putting stuff off as long as I’ve done

I have some questions for you. How long have you had seizures? How many seizures a day do you have? Does any medication help? What type of seizures do you have??
silentwriter180 · 51-55, F
@SuperA I've had seizures for 40 years, trying all kinds of meds. I have complex partial seizures. Luckily, I am down to 2-3 seizures a month, whereas it was a lot more before.
SuperA · 70-79, F
Thank you for answering. I've had seizures (petit mal) since 1968. I have about 2 seizures per year.
Good luck with your surgery.
