I Am a Writer

Any tips on writing parent characters for children/teen characters? Or parents who are soon to have children. Even a single parent. Can be bad parents or good.

I didn't have the best parents and cant remember to have a reference to go on.

Here's one based on me, an absent father who doesn't give a f*k about his kids. Never wants to see them, never sends presents for birthday or Christmas all they ever get are messages on social media. And god forbid if he ever paid a penny maintenance. Turns out at the end of the story he did do all these things but his ex the kids mother just lied about it all the time and took money off them from their jobs to help pay for their food etc, meantime she isn't paying the mortgage off she blows the money on red wine and Bingo.
Got enough material yet or do you want some more?

if you want to write on your parents.. use a tattoo machine. ;)

?

i'm dumb, did you forget a comma or are you asking parents .. not that i would or about parents or parents that are writers and their child following their nightmare in life?

cuz... i went into publishing.. as an writer and illustrator, made my own zine then got hooked up with others and started trading, sharing and publishing back and forth.

then finally got into journals, small press zines and shit like that.

you can use reality along with your idealistic approach.

just takes time.

you have many references ON YOUR base.. don't do the cliche'. be innovative.

Writing parents? I don't understand!

@Serenitree writing parent characters.

@Cannelle oh, I see. No ideas sorry. I don't write fiction so when I do write, I'm basing the characters on real people, so I don't have to start from zero. I just embellish certain characteristics to create interest and depth.
