I Appreciate the Little Things In Life

How often do we allow ourselves to, actually, do nothing? Very rarely, I’d say. Speaking for myself, I always get a wee bit of a sense of guilt at the thought of doing nothing. But it really does have huge benefits.
By nothing, I mean nothing! Not watching TV, flicking through a magazine or scrolling through social media posts. Just sit and do nothing, relax. I find it easier outdoors, start hearing the birdsong or the lazy buzzing of a bee, be aware of your surroundings and let the mind run free. Now, that’s the important part. With so much technology surrounding us these days and the awful things happening in the world, we constantly occupy our minds and we don’t give ourselves enough time to just think, let our thoughts wander. It’s a really good exercise to try and it’s enormously helpful to get those thoughts in order. You know, a lot of us have been spring cleaning and decluttering our homes during lockdown, this is the same thing in decluttering our thoughts for our own well being.
A glass of homemade lemonade.
This is a point well taken. Doing nothing is one of the functions of meditation - to stop all resistant thought, opening ourselves to our true nature and allowing cleansing and healing.
