I Am Not An Atheist

The more I talk to atheists the more I realise they live in a dream world, a dream world in which a highly complicated mechanism like a cell put itself together by unguided forces, and then survive in a hostile environment and replicate. Seems totally illogical to me but they lap it up

You are aware that cells didn't just come into existence de novo, aren't you?
Speedyman · 70-79, M
You are aware that they have all the hallmarks of design ?@Bushranger
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Speedyman OK, how about you expand on that.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Well if you can’t see it what’s the point in me expanding? Look at the cell and they has all the hallmarks of design in that he has specificity and uniqueness of purpose@Bushranger
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Speedyman Now, that's no way to have a reasonable discussion.

If, as you seem to assume, cells came into existence fully formed and with no prior antecedents, then there would be some reason to consider them designed. Alternatively, if there was a sequence of events that lead from simple, replicating molecules to cells, then there would be no reason to go to the design concept.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
So who designed them? How can something so complex reformed from nonliving matter? Explain that to me please. Where do your simple self replicating molecules come from? Or is that your magic?@Bushranger
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Speedyman I've said this many times before, I personally don't have the answer to that question, but it certainly isn't magic. There are at least several different hypotheses regarding the origin of life on earth, any one of which may be the correct one. Alternatively, they could all be wrong and a completely different hypothesis will answer the question.

Just because something exists, doesn't necessarily mean that it was designed. And the development of organisms is not by random forces, but by selection of viable genotypes.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
It always amazes me the way we see something which is quite obviously designed by intelligence and people like you deny the obvious. It’s not science of course it’s philosophy. However you put it it’s totally impossible like Schrödinger’s cat getting out the box@Bushranger
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Speedyman If design was the only hypothesis that answered all the questions, then it would become a theory. Since it isn't, it remains a hypothesis, along with at least several others. Until one of them wins out in the end I will keep an open mind. Not philosophy, just rational thinking.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
But your thinking is totally irrational because you believe it in an if rational universe With no purpose@Bushranger
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Speedyman What purpose do you believe the universe has?
Speedyman · 70-79, M
It is the temple for the living God@Bushranger
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Speedyman OK, guess I can't argue with that, then.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Bushranger As a father have you ever built a playhouse for your kids to play in? Maybe a play farm or such? Something they will grow out of but at the same time something they can play in and learn in and become a mature adult by engaging in? Well think of what a infinitely powerful and intelligent Father can do for His children.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 That presupposes that humans are the ultimate organism in the universe and the existence of a God that fits your beliefs. I'm willing to accept that's what you believe, but it's not what I believe.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Bushranger Where do you ever get the impression that humans are the ultimate organism? Not from Christianity. Christianity believes that humans are fallen creatures that can not make their own way in the universe or here on earth.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
So what are the ultimate organisms? @Bushranger
