I Believe Good Manners Is Not Old Fashioned

I must confess I am amazed at the lack of teaching of good manners these days to young people. I was on a crowded bus with many teen schoolchildren occupying the seats when a real old lady got on. Not one of the kids budged to give up their seat for the frail old lady who was left standing till an older man gave up his seat. I don't blame the kids too much as it appears they have never been told a few manners by their parents or anyone else. Perhaps that should be on the curriculum of our politically correct schools

I find a lot of old people are very ill mannered towards younger people. They'd get more respect if they showed some.

Why schools? Don't these kids have parents to teach them manners?
jennypenny · 70-79, F
Evidently not! @Mikemcneil

That's the real problem then.

people on here don't even tell me they are going...they just leave...and then either answer a reply 5 days later as if nothing happened or don't reply at all til a week later

@samanthabelle I'm with you on that. Woukd it hurt to say I'm off for a while, or even, I'm bored talking to you! The sudden disappearance is very irritating.

@Petermatureuk3 I can't even get a "Hang on be back later", or "wait phone call, or "be back in 10 mi"

No @jennypenny schools shouldn't teach this - it is the parents who normally show total lack of respect. Sorry but I see this as my wife is a teacher, they get so much hassle with parents coming in and having a go at them when they pull kids up on this kind of thing.

Our society has become more informal over time, almost "dumbed down".
Sharon · F
@chrisCA That's one example. Men standing when a woman (but not a man) joins or leaves the table is another.
chrisCA · M
@Sharon Interesting. I always stand when someone is being introduced at my table, or if I am sitting.
Sharon · F
@chrisCA I would too when first being introduced but I was referring to the sexist custom of men (not women) standing whenever a woman (but not a man) leaves or joins the table.
Maybe they weren't thinking? Were they paying the lady any attention?
