Might not have been that she didn鈥檛 want you, it could have been she couldn鈥檛 have you
PhoenixPhailM
It doesn't matter. It's history.
You've got a good mum who wants you.
Jenny123451-55, F
You should go on that show Long Lost Family
BigbangFACTSM
Ive always thought a true parent is the one who actually raised and cared for you.
g0thb4byF
@BigbangFACTS I love my adopted family but I still think about my birth mum a lot
greenmountaingal70-79, F
@BigbangFACTS Most people get parents and a genetic background in one conventional package. So most people do not know how it feels to have common and in some cases essential information not available. Wanting to to know more about one's origins and personal background doesn't in any way mean that our adopted parents don't feel like our parents to us. It just means we are curious about our backgrounds like everyone else--but most people find that out easily while adoptees must make a special effort.

@g0thb4by Have you considered locating your birth mother so you can know more about the situation? There is an organization called ALMA that helps people locate birth families.

What makes you think she didn鈥檛 want you? Maybe she wanted you so much. But loved you enough to want better for you than what she could give you. Maybe she sacrificed her own heart to give you a better life.
TheotherAndy41-45, M
@PeachyK I think I fell into that bracket in my situation
g0thb4byF
@PeachyK maybe 馃槦
masterofyou70-79, M
@PeachyK your wisdom is spot on....
SweetMae70-79, F
I can understand the pain. My twin boys wondered the same thing.
nedkelly61-69, M
@SweetMae Did you give up your children馃ズ
SweetMae70-79, F
@nedkelly No! I adopted someone else's. I asked for an open adoption so that the mother would never wonder how they were being treated or if they were happy and healthy. I also wanted them to know their mother. She loved them but couldn't afford to give them the life they deserved.
nedkelly61-69, M
Many reasons, and sometimes you are better off not knowing
FernieF
Life is funny...My mother never wanted me either...but, unfortunately for me, she kept me. How I wish she'd given me up. You don't know she didn't want you. That's the last reason women give up their children.
greenmountaingal70-79, F
She probably wanted you, but wasn't in a position to keep you.

If you are legally of age, you can locate your birth mother and, assuming she is still alive, ask her what happened.
TheotherAndy41-45, M
Don't assume she didn't want you :) I was adopted, and not because I wasn't wanted

I鈥檓 sure it was a good reason. Mine was a teen mom who wanted to go to college and couldn鈥檛 afford a baby. Being Korean she would have had no support from her family or the community around her
TheotherAndy41-45, M
My mom was in her 20s but not in a good spot in her life to care for another child. She had her daughter with her a tthe time and had given up another child a year before me. No family support either @SW-User
MrAverage196561-69, M
That's understandable there may be a good reason why they couldn't keep you. Have you ever thought about trying to trace your biological parents?
greenmountaingal70-79, F
@MrAverage1965 I am an adoptee that found my birth family. I found out why I was put up for adoption. And I am now friends with a wonderful kind sister. Finding your original family will give you many answers.
wunderluv51-55, M
@g0thb4by I'm sure that you do think of her often. I think that every mom wants their child but even more they want them to have a great life. Sometimes young moms have difficult situations that they have to deal with surrounding their child's conception or birth. I do think in the end they don't give their babies up lightly at all. I think that if I were in that situation I would surely wonder about her too and I would send her love in the hope that it would heal whatever brought about my adoption.. I empathise
Are you planning to try and find your birth mom?
Pretzel61-69, M
she may have wanted you but didn't figure she could raise you.

I imagine it was a tough choice for her
PrivateHellM
Sometimes being adopted can be a blessing.
greenmountaingal70-79, F
@PrivateHell Being adopted at birth isn't really that much different than being born to a couple like most other people. And adopted children, contrary to popular opinion, are not automatically loved, adored, spoiled etc. Like other children, they have good, bad and mediocre parents. Adoptive parents DO sometimes behave badly just like regular parents sometimes do. If you doubt this possibility, you can read my Featured story under my Profile here. I was adopted by parents who never should've had children. Most adoptive parents do a good job, like regular parents, but not all.
gobphus80-89, MVIP
It鈥檚 natural to wonder why your birth mother gave you up for adoption, but don鈥檛 jump to conclusions. She may have wanted you very much. She may have felt unable to provide a good home for you. You鈥檙e fortunate that you have a family who chose you and who loves you.
greenmountaingal70-79, F
@gobphus Adoptive families, like regular families, vary. Not all adoptive families are loving and happy. In fact, being an adoptee is the only situation I know of in which, if you are abused, you are told to be grateful.

probably you were too ugly or something

That鈥檚 so sad
MartinTheFirst22-25, M
Well the way you think about is through different eyes than the ones of a person who have a decision to keep something or not. At that time you were yet not a personality, so it doesn't matter who you were she'd still do what she did. Because of that it wasn't because of you, it was more likely because of the responsibility.
