"Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven” – The Limeliters

Seriously good song that you’ve probably never heard.
Several curious things about it:
The Limeliters–the ones who recorded “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven”–are an old established folk music group, yet this ain’t no folk song. It’s basically a rock song and these guys did one hell of a job with it.
The song was released as part of a 1993 album called Joy Across the Land, but it was never released as a single as far as I can tell. That’s hard to understand. I think someone screwed up here because I can’t believe it wouldn’t have done well if it had been released as a single.
It appears that no performers have ever covered “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven”, but in 2016, it was sampled in a song by the rapper Ice Cube, which was used in a trailer for the video game Mafia III. I’ve listened to his song and the best thing I can say about it is that it seems to have led to a number of gamers discovering the unaltered Limeliters’ recording. As one of them said:
“Was actually looking for the version with Ice Cube but this is even better.”
