So basically all the “money” in the banks are just numbers on the screen. What would happened

If everyone withdrew all their “money” in paper at once?
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
They literally can’t. It was explained to me once. they don’t hold significant amounts of money and if there is a significant withdraw it will take a few days for them to get the money from the reserve
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@CestManan right? That’s concerning 🤔
Mindful · 56-60, F
@CestManan there is a governing board... the federal reserve. It’s not so much a place as it is a management group in treasury department. It is an essential department. Some info provide public for financial institutions, public, but not all is revealed so public-some is top secret.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Mindful Makes sense.

I think even if gold were used to back it - gold is just some damned metal anyways, not even that pretty or useful in it's raw form.
And just like that you’re on a gov’t watchlist 😜
CestManan · 46-50, F
I think it would be called "Fubar".

BTW, when companies sell stocks, is that just a way to artificially boost their net worth?
Mindful · 56-60, F
Yes! @CestManan
Eclipsed · M
It's all a pyramid scheme. It works because most don't question it.
Mindful · 56-60, F
Exactly. I like pretending it works@Eclipsed
Eclipsed · M
@Mindful me too! I benefit.. but I'm also positioning in metals, stocks, and cryprocurrecies.. maybe it all crashes.. maybe it doesn't.. who knows.. I can only do my best to spread my resources out. I just wish I owned land.. thats my one weakness.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@Eclipsed I sold my Shopify and felt like crying over it this year!
I don't see why this is a surprise...or a problem?

The financial economies of the world have been fiat for around 50 years, some longer than that. If I offered you $1000 for your hat, I bet you'd take it, even though "it's only paper".

Because you know you can swap that $1000 of "paper" for other stuff you want, like food and gasoline and rent. It all works the same whether we're swapping gold coins or silver nuggets or "promissory notes", aka "cash."

They'll be printing more money as the Chinese bitcoin strategy is trying to kill the American dollar Currency Value
Mindful · 56-60, F
Oh is Bitcoin Chinese???@FreestyleArt
Iwillwait · M
Probably nothing, since it isn't really backed by anything.
Human1000 · M
It’s a confidence game...no confidence, no game.@Iwillwait
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Iwillwait I have heard that money is backed only by people's faith in it.
I guess let that sink in for a moment.
Iwillwait · M
@CestManan "Fiat," I believe the term is.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
It would never happen as the Federal Government would order the financial institutions to close the doors and close ATM
None of the banks keep the amount of paper currency on hand to equal the deposits they manage.

The bigger question is what are you going to do to keep everyone from knocking you in the head with a rock and taking all your cash?
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SWisGoingWoke shhhhh stop spreading potential insanity 🤣
@Mindful Sorry. But if you really want your head to hurt, just remember that no matter how much money you have, it can all be gone in a flash. You can't trust money.

What you CAN trust is God.
Mindful · 56-60, F
💜 awwwwwwwwwww thank you!!!! And yes, you are 100% correct@SWisGoingWoke
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
I think that’s why the US has a law that you can only have $10,000 in cash.
@MrBrownstone You can "have" all the cash you want, but if you make a cash transaction at a banking institute for $10,000 or more in a 24 hour period, they report it to the Feds. It's more to stop money laundering than to control the populace...but...it has a nice controlling effect anyway.
Your Uncle Sam thanks you! Now, where did that money come from?
Nobody00 · F
The world economy would crash cause that paper does not exist
@Nobody00 Even if it exists, the only reason a piece of paper with $100 printed on it is worth 100 of the ones with $1 printed on them, is because we all agree it is.

It's called "Fiat" currency system.
That would be very bad
Mindful · 56-60, F
Shhhh.
You’re going to scare people.

I dunno what to say.
Human1000 · M
I think paper money is less than 1 percent of the total supply.
