I Have a Question

Those of you 40 and older, did you ever buy anything off of those As Seen on TV commercials that were out in the 80s and 90s? Just abt everything on those commercials advertised was $19.95. I bought 2 Barbara Streisand CD's in 2002. I was watching TV late at night and saw Barbara Streisand Greatest hits 2pk of CD's for 19.95. Of course the commercial said "operators are standing by" so I called (it was abt 1am). A nice older lady answered and we actually had a conversation abt various things while I orders.

I once fished with a Popeil Pocket Fisherman, it wasn't mine and was a piece of junk. LOL I guy I worked with tried the Popeil bald spot remover (turned out to be black spray paint..LOL). I was lucky and learned from the mistakes of others.

@bowman81 The CD's were a good buy. I listened to them for a long time.

I never did. I always thought if it were that cheap it was probably things they couldn’t give away.

@Keepitsimple My CDs were a good buy.

I didn't order anything off those, but I join one of those clubs where they send you three free CDs and then you're obligated to buy one CD a month for at least a year. When you sign up, you get a huge choice of amazing things, but when they sent you the choices each month, it didn't take long to realise it was a way of shifting all the things that nobody had bought because nobody liked them.

@GlassDog I remember that those clubs. They had one for books too.

In the seventies we got the vegomatic and spiral slicer. Used it for a long time for making french fries. I got the ginsu knives and silverware. Still have one. More recently I got an inductive hot plate. That worked quite well up at the farm before I got a stove. Bought a bigger one for down in the cities for when I make cake fillings and chocolate coatings.

I never watch TV now and never bought anything peddled on it when I did.

No one needs that worthless junk and no one needs to be assaulted by those endless ads.

Aren’t those commercials still a thing (but more rare)? They must’ve done decent sales if they kept advertising on tv, but they all probably shifted online

@Scooter They used to sell pretty good stuff. Sold some junk too so had to be careful if you did buy from them.

Always nice to be friendly. I can't say that I have ever bought anything from one of those commercials.
