What was that tree and why did Yoda burn it down?

The tree is the symbol of the Jedi and the tree contained the text of the Jedi (think Jedi bible) luke said he was going to burn it then stopped and yoda did that. The books wisdom but wasn't what she needed she needed a mentor not books.
