I Hate Myself For Letting Him Hurt Me

Strange behavior on my part, still leaves me confused. Our friendship went on for years, it dragged and dragged draining me physically and mentally. Still with each fight, I forgave him I believed in our bond of friendship.

Why?
Why would I keep shutting the door only to let him back in? Why do I feel the need to give him a thousand chances to reform? Something is definitely wrong with me but what is it?

There's nothing wrong with you. You just wanted to believe in him. For a long time it was easier than letting go. Until it just got too much. Be pleased it's over now but don't regret it. Perhaps nothing. You have a big heart. You just need to learn where to draw the line of what you will tolerate. If he's toxic, and abusive, I suggest you nail that door shut, forever.
