You don't have to like him, but you have to love him. I don't always like everyone in my family either, but I always strive to love them anyway.

That's a big statement. It takes courageous honesty to say that.

I think there are many parents who aren't crazy about their children, and in doing and feeling what they think they're [i]supposed[/i] to do and feel, they're not being completely honest with themselves, and never settle the issue internally. So, they keep living pretentiously.

We don't have to like everyone

It's not uncommon for family members to dislike or even hate each other - often for very good reasons.

But it's always possible to create a family of friends whom one loves and is close to.

Not sure if you're the typical mother saying 'they grow up so fast' or you're disappointed in who he is. Hopefully the former
