I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

This is the cover of the last issue of French satyrical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Personally, I don't like it. I find it lacks finesse like ALL their covers. But I believe in free speech. When their office went through a terror attack a couple of years ago, many claimed for freedom of speech, and said 'Je suis Charlie'.

If you were for freedom of speech and were Charlie then, you must be for freedim of speech now too. Otherwise, if now you think this is hate speech, you are a hypocrite.

True free speech protects not only what we agree with but that in which we don't. The greatest test of whether we support free speech is whether we can defend that which we violently disagree.

@lasergraph That's it. Very well said

It was like that post I shared the other day when Pauline Hanson (one nation bogan redneck m senator) walked into parliament wearing a burqua as an expression to ban the burqua in Australia. Free speech is an important aspect of our lives but some people do take it one step too far, now we have all this political correctness cry babies that think free speech does more harm than good, which is not the case.

@SW-User Yes, free speech is important, but subtlety and tact are too, and some people lack them. That lack makes their messages less effective

I think the problem is the most who were using the french flag at the attack on C.H. on their facbook and all shouting "je suis Charlie" are now the one's who have problems with this front page, freedom of speech, as long as it fits them, and forgetting what's the job of those cartoonists; kicking asses and being controversial.
Cierzo · M
@SW-User Exactly. This magazine is controversial for the sake of it. And those who defend freedom of speech only when it suits their agenda are nothing but hypocrites

Tasteless yes but makes a point.
Cierzo · M
@GJOFJ3 Tasteless as always, makes a point as always.

I'm all for free speech but you can go about it in different ways.
This way is just extremely tasteless, tactless and totally uncalled for.
Cierzo · M
@FeetAreFantastic It is tasteless. They are always like that. But some people did not seem to care about it two years ago when they were attacked, and now they do. This is the attitude I cannot take.
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
@Cierzo yes, that I can agree with!
