I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

Iceland is about to eradicate Down syndrome. How? Using prenatal testing and abortion.

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/450509/down-syndrome-iceland-cbs-news-disturbing-report

This is what I call a really sick, vile society.

My sister in law terminated her second pregnancy when the Dr recommended she do it as her baby would've had Down syndrome. She had a healthy baby not long after.

Oh and she doesn't live in Iceland.

It's a personal choice.

@Cierzo Sure, that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. Nothing wrong with feeling passionately about things. As long as you realise that your opinion isn't the only one.
Cierzo · M
@SW-User My opinion is just an opinion among many, irrelevant like most of them

@Cierzo There we go.
JustNik · 51-55, F
Wow. That's just shocking. Where does this lead? Who decides how much abnormal is too much abnormal to live? Not all down syndrome people have the same level of disability, but we kill them all just in case? Geez - your socks don't match today so we better abort your kid because it might turn out stupid.
Cierzo · M
@JustNik It would be even sadder if facial characteristics were what moves parents to eliminate their children.
JustNik · 51-55, F
@Cierzo I don't know if the parents themselves get that far in their thinking if they're feeling pressured by doctors and society. I was just thinking of society in general...as a whole we have always been harshest and had less compassion for those ailments that were outwardly visible. Anyway, sorry to go on about it. Just caught me by surprise.
Cierzo · M
@JustNik I want to think that it is the thought that their kid will have less opportunities than a healthy kid in life what moves them to abort. But does this really make things better? I don't know. I just know that news like these make me laugh about 'progress' and 'evolution'. Humans are technological advanced beasts
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
This is only the start unfortunately. While we have people running around tearing down "racist" statues and screaming about Nazis, they are at the same time perfectly fine about using Nazism tactics against people they consider "not feasible" in the grander scheme of life. It's hypocrisy at it's finest. It is pointless to point that out because they either refuse to see it or are so lost they cannot see it.
The more advances in genetic testing, the more they will begin to weed out those considered not relevant until a society is built out of the "right" people. I am glad I'll be dead before that happens.
@Cierzo Before abortion people just committed infanticide or hid people away in the back room or wards. None of those are good outcomes.

I don't know about Europe, but in America the abortion rate has steadily decreased over the last 10 years.
Cierzo · M
@CopperCicada You are right. Abortion is just the means. Now we don't need to use our hands to get rid of babies, it is cleaner. Progress 😄🤢

Centuries pass and we do not learn to love life in itself, without referring it to a superior being (now called market or state)
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@CopperCicada As I stated to Pherick further down, I see the way of millennial's as being a financial and aggravating drain on society. Has the average 18-25 year old improved with medical and technological advancements? Hardly. Aside from a small minority, most of them are lacking social and functional skills on a grand scale. Many of their attitudes are sociopathic. I fail to see how many of them are more deserving or likely to benefit society as a whole. Maybe the answer is to pretty much not allow anyone to procreate anymore and save the world a bundle. lol
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
I do have to add this (though not agreeing with Iceland on this point) is that their Viking ancestors didn't take kindly to their handicapped offspring. They saw them as being unable to make something of their life and would leave them out in the elements to die. They saw it as a kindness. Perhaps this the modern day version. However, we are no longer a tribalism society. There are medical advancements and opportunities not available to that primitive culture.
Pherick · 41-45, M
Yea sick! How dare they want to have healthy children, vile fucks! 🙄
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Pherick You said "deformed" and I was attempting to guess what you meant by that and use the facial features as the example. Being deformed has to do with some twisted representation of the human body. Facial features and cognitive ability isn't the same as a deformity.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@ravenwind43 Oh I see where I said that. I am sorry, poor choice of words. I meant its about having a child with Down Syndrome. I should have said that, as you said deformed was a very poor choice of words.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Pherick A very big majority of millennial's walking around right now cannot identify where a state is on a map, nor have any understanding of simple things. They show an appalling lack of social and functional skills. Many of them cannot take care of themselves (18-25) without parental help. Their use of the English language and grammar is embarrassing. Their lives revolve around their phone and attention seeking behavior and when attention fails to deliver they use drama such as cutting and talking about mental health disorders and threatening suicide so someone will look at them. They are obsessed with their phones and often express sociopathic behavior on an almost daily basis.
So I ask, what gives them the right to exist over someone with Down Syndrome? They are not living a life that is likely to amount to much and will be pushed through life because it's the "nice" thing to do. Wouldn't society be bettered by removing these potentially defective babies before they cost the world heartache and money?
You can use the argument well some of them might do good. I daresay some people with Down Syndrome also do well, they are more genuine in their actions towards others. If I have the chance to spend the day with someone with Down Syndrome over one of these attention seeking sociopath millennial's I would choose it in a heartbeat:)

I smell a snopes page coming about this subject.
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Cierzo Unlike this article which is conservative crap
Cierzo · M
@Pherick CBS has information about it too, but I have my preferences 😉
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Cierzo CBS actually has a good story and shows both sides of the story. Of course your site doesn't think so, but hey.
SW-User
This makes me sad.😭

hi Cierzo
Is termination of pregnancy compulsory in the event of a positive test result for Downs Syndrome in Iceland then? Is the test for Downs Syndrome in Iceland itself compulsory also? Can a person leave Iceland in that situation? Do you think parents should be given an informed choice?
Best wishes
:)
Pherick · 41-45, M
@Cierzo Are you implying that the cost of a normal healthy child is the same as caring for a DS child? If so, you are really far off-base.

Interesting how you want people to behave like responsible adults, but when behaving like responsible adults means terminating a pregnancy, you are against it :)

Enjoy.
Cierzo · M
@Pherick You know, I happen to believe that being responsible and a murderer cannot go together. I know that not everybody thinks so, though
Cierzo · M
@sogdianrock Fathers have something to do with making babies too, at least in most cases. And there is the baby too. Some of us do not swallow the 'bunch of cells' bs
