Yes. This matters. And not just rules of logic, but hardly anybody can follow a line of thinking. Most people [b][u]immediately[/u][/b] get off a proposition/argument and go somewhere else -- somewhere kind of related in their mind but definitely off the original 'thing' -- and think that the person they are responding to is also somewhere else with them. Immediate incoherence, and total unawareness of it.
In the olden days, 'thinking' was taught as part of [b]learning how to write[/b] -- form an argument and defend it (beginning by defining terms), including stating opposing views and rebutting them. Apparently, schools don't teach writing any more. Not really. ...Many other reasons for this problem. It's going to get worse. Probably a lot worse, frightening as that is.

@Ceinwyn There are rules for logic. An argument is either sound or not. I'm not saying whether they are [i]good[/i] or [i]bad[/i] arguments, but most arguments people make are barely even coherent.
