I Battle Depression

People with depressive episodes often behave as if shut down, or in a robotic state. The bit nobody thinks about is personal hygiene. Seems like a no-brainer, common sense, simple etiquette, etc. but to someone going through a severe depressive episode, hygiene is often the last thing on their mind. Most of the time people in an episode won't bother with showering until it becomes a major issue (not pleasant in the summer I assure you). Dental care suffers as well, with teeth brushing becoming a grand task rather than a simple chore.

Unfortunately, in longer episodes the hygiene lapses take their toll. More ostracized, poorer self image, pains and smells you don't like but don't care to fix, and so on. The absolute worst part is that these situations may increase the length of the episode, if not the depth. If you or someone you know is suffering, don't treat them like a child, simply motivate them.
