I have never cheated on any of my partners but some people want to have it all (more than one partner but don't want an open relationship) or don't want to lose a could lifestyle (if their partner provides more than they good on their own). These are just reasons off the top of my head I don't condone them but there must be loads of other reasons people do it and some may be valid.

@silentkillx2: Not really easy to unravel a life of 20, 30 or 40 years when things are established. Kids, finances, assets, property, inlaws, outlaws, friends, family etc etc etc..it's more than just packing bags and walking out the door.. no matter how much you may want too.

And it is probably a group with sad people feeling very stuck in relationships where they are not getting their needs met by partners who are unwilling to even consider changing their ways, and can't see a way out. It happens.
