Did you know that of all foods on the planet, only WHEAT converts into a morphine-like substance that is able to pass the blood brain barrier?

The substance to which wheat converts gloms directly onto the area of the brain that is affected by morphine and oxycodone. AND...if you take the pill or tablet version of Narcan, it blocks the "wheat morphine".

Wheat and all things containing wheat are addictive. If you eat wheat products and then quit for two weeks you will actually experience withdrawal symptoms, like headache, runny nose, depression, fatigue, etc.

Eating wheat sets up a cycle of insulin resistance, in addition to the above, and causes you to want to eat more, all the time, and causes you to be more hungry more often.

All of the above can be confirmed in a scary book I've begun to read called "Wheat Belly", by Dr. William Davis, and this was recommended as reading by SW member cherokeepatti who is a naturalist and something of an expert on nutrition and food chemicals.

More tidbits to come.

This makes so much sense! I wish I didn’t live bread. Bread certainly does not love me back.

@nonsensiclesnail I love foods like Triscuits. I am exploring how to make all these new foods, and I ordered some Blue Diamond nut thins, and one bag of Flackers...which are crackers made from flax seeds...and I've bought almond flour and chickpea flour and potato flour and golden flax seeds, and I am going to try making wheat free foccacia bread with herbs, and wheat free bread sticks. It will probably be a few days...but I will let you know if all the new stuff is edible...🤣
@4meAndyou please do!! I would love to know. My adventures in wheat free eating have been disappointing. I don’t think I tried the right things, or hard enough. I would love to hear how yours went.

@nonsensiclesnail You are not supposed to overeat, of course, but air popped popcorn is okay, and you can add like 2 tsp of olive oil to it before you salt it. I like to put Old Bay Seasoning on it, which is spicy. I also found that Fritos Honey BBQ twists contain no wheat, and of course potato chips have no wheat.

It figures, doesn't it, that I just LOADED my cabinets with canned goods that contain wheat before I started all of this...🤣

I am finding that almost every soup I normally buy is thickened with wheat flour. So I will be making my own soup...I like to buy organic chicken broth in shelf stable quart packages, and you can buy mirepoix already chopped if you want a super easy soup.
@4meAndyou I'm a big fan of popcorn with nutritional yeast on it. Been my favorite since childhood.
I'm not a big eater. And wheat causes so much inflammation in my gut that it is, at times, unbearable. yet I still ate a bagel for breakfast because I'm part idiot. Now I wont eat anything wheat like for three or four days, swearing I wont d it ever again, probably while eating peanut butter crackers.

@nonsensiclesnail It sounds like you need to clean out your cabinets and throw all that stuff away. Put your peanut butter on nut thins...that won't hurt you. If those bread sticks turn out all right, I'll let you know and you can dip them in cream cheese and wrap lox around them...🤣
@4meAndyou Yes! that would be wonderful.

Ive got to get my family to feel good about not having wheat around too. That is the real tricky part.

@4meAndyou the best breads that are gluten free are homemade. Even the little mini waffle makers can be used for a simple type of bread to make a hamburger with. I’ll probably be using the mini-waffle maker a bit this summer for hamburger buns.

@nonsensiclesnail You might need to start baking.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti I might have to do that. I am not doing too well so far. I haven't begun making or baking anything special yet, and I feel sick to my stomach and the headache started around noon.

@4meAndyou gluten free waffles are easy to mix up but you have to cook them one-by-one which is OK. They can be made ahead of time and put it the toaster to reheat. I’ve made onion burgers with them.
@cherokeepatti I forgot about gluten free waffles. They are really good!!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@nonsensiclesnail I make them from gluten-free flour mix and they are very easy to make. You can also make different flavors like chocolate or chocolate chip or whatever you like, even add some green herbs for savory waffles.

@cherokeepatti I just ordered the mini-non-stick waffle maker...only $14.95!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou I got one from Walmart for less than that but OK if you get it delivered. It’s just the right size for a sandwich.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti Yeah, free delivery. I am feeling pretty sick today...must be detoxing or something. Talk later!

@4meAndyou hope you start feeling better
