The Heirloom aka “ugly” tomato

It may be ugly but it’s a good one to have for a salad or just cut up with a dressing on it.

The qualities that make normal tomatoes last longer (shelf life) also reduce sugar and other aspects - making them bland. The true heirloom tomato, not bred commercial for shelf life, doesn’t suffer from that.

@DownTheStreetthere's no one heirloom. Heirloom isn't a single variety. It is just any stable genetics variety as oppposed to an F1 hybrid.

Those are fantastic tomatoes! I had a coworker who used to grow them and bring them in. Best tomato I've had!

Is it a brandywine?
@MethDozer It probably is but I’ve never seen them advertised other than heirloom.

@soar2newhighs Brandywine is an heirloom variety. Heirloom isn't a single variety.
@MethDozer well I’ve purchased these ugly tomatoes before and not all reds but I enjoy them. A bit more expensive than other tomatoes but worth it. Thanks for the info though.
