I Like Cooking From Scratch...

What kinds of foods do you enjoy making at home?
When I used my deep fryer I tried a few things from scratch
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Looks like you eat pretty good@soar2newhighs
@cherokeepatti have pretty much given up the eating part (fried foods)but will cook for others.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@soar2newhighs It’s rare that I deep fry anything these days. I will only use cooking oils one time and then discard, it’s unhealthy to reuse the oil

@missbeez sometimes I find new things for sale, women get them for Christmas gifts and sell them cheap because they don’t like to cook or they are on a keto diet etc

I usually make pizza on the weekend; although I don’t have any fancy pictures to show...
sciguy18 · M
@cherokeepatti Did you actually make those? They look way better than mine.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@sciguy18 yes I did

I make a killer PB&J sandwich

So funny Patty. I always tell people that I’m a scratch cook. I love to cook and create. I always cook from scratch when it is viable. Of course, some things, are better left store bought, when time and expense is just not worth it. I love and enjoy making things that are better than store bought.

It’s one of my passions and just so satisfying in many ways. I love your photos and just made another batch of sauerkraut in the crock too!

As always, you are a favorite of mine.🤗😘💐

@Oster1 we made cheese on the farm. My aunt used a heavy dinner plate for a weight and put something on top of it. She also made wine from the grapes we grew. And made a lot sauerkraut that she canned in jars....but sauerkraut is much healthier to eat fresh because heat processing in canning kills the healthy bacteria. I’ve made yogurt cheese and would love to do that again. I watched a You Tube video of a Turkish lady making it and she fancied up it so good, made my mouth water.

@cherokeepatti 🤗 Yeah processed sauerkraut is just flavored and devoid of nutrients. I need to learn more about cheese making in the crock. I would so love to spend a few days with you, learning your techniques!😊💞

@Oster1 I accidentally learned to make yogurt cheese in the early 80’s when a container of homemade yogurt was pushed to the back of the top shelf of the refrigerator and the lid came off. I found it when half of the water had evaporated. It didn’t have any mold & smelled OK so I took a bite and liked it. I started making half-gallons of yogurt and draining it in a colander lined with a cheesecloth or coffee filters & keeping it in the refrigerator till it was very thick. Would have it for breakfast on toast with honey.

Imma coming to your house ! You’re only a couple hours away ...
Iwillwait · M
@cherokeepatti I wish you were my neighbour. 😭
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Iwillwait When I was a newlywed I enjoyed cooking so many things especially baked items. I’d make cookies, brownies, cake etc and on Saturday mornings my neighbor would come over and ask if my husband was home.... would tell him he was at work. Then he’d sniff the air and say “whatcha cooking?” I’d tell him brownies or whatever and tell him to have some....I’d be washing dishes and he’d say “oh these are good”... when I would turn around they had disappeared. He would say thank you, I gotta go work on my motorcycle (or whatever) and leave. I don’t know how he could smell what I was baking cause he lived across the street and about 3 houses down but it never failed. And I would make more after he left.

The last one is my favorite!
LeaDhelani · 22-25, F
@RopinTexan omg....yuuuuum...
MntoNc · 36-40, M
Those rolls though 😍
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MntoNc they are the easiest recipe for rolls that I have ever made so I am making them once or twice a week
Azlotto · M
I cook almost all my food from scratch.

Is that first picture lacto-fermented sauerkraut?
Azlotto · M
@cherokeepatti Wow, I'm impressed...Not very many people these days understand the health benefits of fermented foods.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Azlotto essential for health. People need to learn to make these things... cabbage Is cheap and you basically just need a sharp knife and a jar and some sea salt. You can add different types of seeds to flavor it or add some grated carrots if you like. I have also made kimchi but it stinks up the house till it’s finished fermenting. Most of the Korean women at the university apartments would set their jars of kimchi outside of their front door till it finished fermenting.
LeaDhelani · 22-25, F
@Azlotto same
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
What’s the second one?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@RopinTexan candied ginger
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
@cherokeepatti Sounds interesting! Is it just pieces of ginger root covered in sugar?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@RopinTexan yes but it takes time to get it cooked tender and to get it to crystalize
