Time for a diet, and not because of the new year

Just weighed myself at 190, yikes. It might seem kind of bad at 5'9" but I am also missing a leg so it is closer to hitting 220.

First step is to cut back on desserts, sugar, and refined carbs. Still going to try to eat foods I like, but exercise portion control and try to exercise. Sticking with exercise has always been difficult for me, but I'm really going to have to try.

I usually skip breakfast and have something horrible like cup noodles, hot pockets, or some other carb heavy food. I am going to try to get up a little earlier to eat a better breakfast and hopefully skip lunch. Exercising portion control is also going to require some will power. Went with steak and eggs for brunch (got a late start because I had to go to the store). Grabbed a 13 oz steak from the store and made myself cut it in half. Now, steak might not seem an immediate choice for dieting, but I would usually easily demolish a one pound steak. So cutting it down to 6 oz is already a pretty big step. I would also usually do two or three eggs, but I limited it to one over-easy. Also added a handful of green beans to round it out and add some extra nutrients.

With luck, the high protein might help me avoid lunch altogether or rely on a light snack like a little yogurt or some sunflower seeds. Paired with smaller dinner portions and cutting out the pre-bed ice cream, the extravagant seeming breakfast should hopefully still be fewer calories throughout the day.

I'm hoping by eating foods I like, but less of them, I'll be able to make this go for a month and see how it does. It may be less efficient than trying to make myself eat foods I generally do not like, but I know if I try to force unappealing food it definitely won't work.

Not a new year's resolution. The goal is a month. Then measure and adjust if needed.
