What the hell is "Pumpkin Spice"?

And why would you let it anywhere near coffee. Even that revolting stuff that passes for coffee in America?🤮

I’m one of the few middle-aged white women in the U.S. who does NOT like “pumpkin spice-flavored” anything.

It’s got to be an actual pumpkin pie, or maybe muffins or bread. Only baked goods should taste like pumpkin spice. Not coffee, beer, or anything else but baked goods.

You’re a treasure!!!!@SmartKat
@SmartKat Total agreement. I DO like pumpkin pie spice in hot chocolate and chocolate cake, and, of course, pumpkin stuff.
This reminded me of my big brother, who likes his coffee a shade or two darker than just water. When he hands you a cup of this pointless concoction, he says, “My house is the only place in Florida where you can get a decent cup of coffee.”

Well, could we go somewhere else, then?

@Mamapolo2016 I agree that coffee is a taste.. We have a good sized Italian, Greek and Turkish population and draw on their heritage for coffee, weaker or strong. The flavour is the key. Unlike the mix of burned Creosote and road tar most cafes in the US serve.
I’ve been to a number of cafes that serve mighty fine coffee. Here. In the US.

Rather than practicing my disdain skills I think I’d try another cafe.
But that’s just me.

If you stick to chain restaurants, they are all tailored to the lowest common denominator in taste.

Considering how most pumpkins end up as jack-o-lanterns on Halloween and just a handful become pumpkin pies, I think it's just a continuous effort by pumpkin growers to find another use for pumpkins.

There's

Pumpkin spice coffee,
Pumpkin spice ice cream,
Pumpkin spice hummus,
Pumpkin spice cold cereal,
even Pumpkin spice Spam, would you believe?

I have not been tempted to try any of the above, and doubt that my taste for pumpkins will ever get beyond pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, which I always pass up if there are other choices, like pecan pie, lemon meringue, apple, blueberry ... which they almost always do have. Counting back, my last slice or pumpkin pie was probably 3 or 4 years ago.

Come to think of it, I'll pick aweet potato pie rather pumpkin pie when given the choice.

@Heartlander So we can look forward to Cockroach spice soon??
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@whowasthatmaskedman

:) probably ... unless cockroaches become an endangered species, or someone discovers that they help lower global temperature.
There are as many different types of coffee in the US as there are cultures on the planet. You must go places that don’t have your kind.

I don’t like anything but coffee and water in coffee, but I don’t think people who like pumpkin spice in their coffee should be drawn and quartered.
Pumpkin pie spice, also known as pumpkin spice, is an American spice mix commonly used as an ingredient in pumpkin pie. Pumpkin pie spice is similar to the British and Commonwealth mixed spice. It is generally a blend of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and sometimes allspice.
@Mamapolo2016 At Last, an actual description. Thank you. Allspice. It doesnt improve my liking of it. But it helps my understanding. Anyone like a spoon full of roast pumpkin soup on their coffee??🤮
Pfuzylogic · M
It is a drink at Starbucks with some really hard core fans, to each their own.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic Good coffee is something Australia takes seriously. Even McDonalds has FAR better coffee than the US Starbucks. Or they wouldnt get the mothers with kids in there for the fatburgers and offal McNuggets.
Pfuzylogic · M
@whowasthatmaskedman
That isn’t true in the US.
Each country is different.
I remember gagging down some KFC, chicken and chips, in London 1984 and it was disgusting
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Pfuzylogic I understand. KFC isnt that great here either.. And forget trying to get a good fish and chips.
BlueVeins · 22-25
Yeah, I don't get it either.

Pumpkin spice is great in pumpkin pie. But in coffee? Oh hell no!!

Pumpkin spice is a great flavor for fall cakes and muffins. I wouldn't flavor a drink after it though

The most pungent mixture of Cloves; Cinnamon; Nutmeg and Ginger.

@Picklebobble2 I have heard draining a septic drain described as "Pungent."

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@gregloa Maybe you should.. It couldnt hurt.🤔
gregloa · 61-69, M
I’ll stick with the pumpkin spice thank you. @whowasthatmaskedman

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Pumpkin itself has minimal flavour.
I'm sure the combination is probably derived from a company needing to sell Pumpkins and deciding to drown them in spice as in some way 'marketable'
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
Pumpkin spice is so damn weird
