Why am I not dead yet?

I first started eating mussels in my mid teens on the beach in Malibu, California. I've always eaten them whenever I could. About 3 years ago I discovered an Asian buffet restaurant about 8 miles from my home and they have excellent steamed mussels. I've been going there about once a week for the last 3 years.

A couple of days ago I decided to go online to read about mussels since I've been eating them nor for about 60 years.

YOWIE!!! According to the article I read I should have died decades ago. These little crustaceans are DANGEROUS!!!馃い I should be dead by now.

Now I'm wondering if I should stop eating them. Or, to be honest, whether I could stand to give them up after a lifetime mussel habit.

There are unscrupulous people who collect them in polluted waters that have banned harvesting them & then tag them as being caught in clean water...they buy the tags but there is no oversight on how they are used. If someone dies as a result maybe a follow-up but no way to protect consumers from getting sick before that happens. I don鈥檛 eat any type of shellfish.

This is something I've always believed. If you're a 100 and eating donuts and smoking cigars, keep on eating the donuts and smoking the cigars! They brought you this far and if you stop you'll probably die.

I learned that, with most seafood, they are kept alive right up until they are to be consumed in order to prevent that stuff. The nasty bacteria begins to form the moment the crustacean dies

Really hard to find fresh seafood in the UK these days.
The sea has been farmed to the point of extinction for things like Mussels; Cockles; Winkles etc.
Hasn't helped that the big food chains have been catching; bagging and freezing them for twenty years.
