Why do Americans insist on putting jam and peanutbutter together in a sandwich

Gee, I am so glad you brought this up because we were almost out of things to argue about.

What's wrong with it? I personally do not care for it, but many people love it and it has been a traditional snack or meal staple for generations...especially here in America.

Because it is the correct way to eat jam and peanut butter. 🤦‍♂️

That's...popular in a lot more places than just America. PB&J is one of the most widely consumed sandwiches in the world.

I wonder if it has a similar history to the Cornish pasty ?

For the uninitiated, a Cornish pasty is, these days, a flaky pastry case filled with meat and vegetables.
But originally it had meat and potato at one end and jam or fruit at the other.

Used by Cornish Tin miners back in the day so that they could eat whilst working without having to carry separate tins/boxes containing their lunch down the mine.

According to a brief piece on Wikipedia it suggests PB&J has only been around since WW2.
