Have you ever eaten a persimmon, and if so, what did it taste like?

LucyFuhr · 56-60, F
Oh wow...I can't think of one thing to compare the taste or the texture to.
For me personally (and I'm referring to Hachiya persimmons) I'd say it tastes like very ripe cantaloupe, mango and honey.

They have to be really really ripe though, if they're not softish in your hand, you'll get nothing but tannin in your mouth.

Try one just for the experience alone.

@LucyFuhr I think I might try one today :) Just for fun!

@SW-User I would totally support that decision LOL
And if you haven't had a guava...I suggest you try one of those too...those are a personal favorite.
SW-User
@LucyFuhr 🐱 Yum! Thanks!

If you eat the ones with the very soft pulp they are beyoond delicious. I eat them withna spoon as it it eas a desert. Here in Italy they are mature late autumn and winter.
SW-User
@SW-User Thanks! I have seen them in the store and always wanted to try one.

@SW-User Well then, I must come back to Italy!

The flesh of a persimmon is simply beautiful and so inviting.
I'm allergic though, so my tongue gets super itchy. I can't enjoy anything about it.
SW-User
@rottenrobi :( Oh no! Sorry my friend!
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
@SW-User it's always bummed me out. Lol. They are such a lovely fruit. 😊
SW-User
@rottenrobi I experience the same allergy with plums.
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
The mushy ones are the ripe ones and they are delicious. If you don't get them ripe then they are bitter and chalky. They are better than mangos in my opinion and that is saying something because I love mangoes
SW-User
@Fungirlmmm Ooooh! So, if I buy a firm one, I need to wait for it to get mushy?
I have. It tastes just like a persimmon. There's no way to describe it. I've not found anything it compares to. But when they're ripe, they're quite good.
SW-User
@PhoenixPhail I will try it!
@SW-User Get one that's pretty soft. Those are the ripe ones.
SW-User
@PhoenixPhail OK. Thanks!

Lots of them, they kind of remind me of a mango but maybe not so acid. I like Japanese persimmons the best, the kind that you can pick while they are solid and not soft and eat them that way.
SW-User
@cherokeepatti Sounds delicious!

Persimmon Pudding is wonderful - Sweet, and firm. Soooo yummy in the fall. Order the pulp online and I’ll send you a recipe ...your thanksgiving guests will love you.
SW-User
@Noble Thanks!!! I will!

SW-User
@DuchessOfMapleSyrup For some reason, I've always wanted to try one.
i'm curious too, but was told they were awful.

On completely ripe they are sweet. They have a unique flavor. They are bitter and sour unripe.
JavaJoe · 51-55, M
Did you have permission to eat a persimmon???
SW-User
@JavaJoe 😋
JavaJoe · 51-55, M
@SW-User did that answer the question? 🤔
SW-User
@JavaJoe Yes! Thank you!
SW-User
It's slightly sweet, but very rich favor. Quite good.
AlmostAnAngel · 100+, F
