Have you ever ordered from a menu that you couldn't read. Just pointed to something on it to the waiter and hoped for the best?

I have enough French and Italian to navigate a menu without ordering the printers name. But I have had the most amazing Chinese meals when in a group with a Chinese person who doesn't order from the menu at all, but speaks to the staff in Mandarin, finds out what is good today and orders without the menu at all.

I do that whenever the menu is in a language other than English
