Does anyone here still read books?

I received several books for Christmas and I can’t wait to get started. I love the feel of a book in my hands, the act of turning the pages.
And if it’s an older book, the smell of the pages, and thinking about who might’ve read the book before me.
I enjoy all subject matter and categories: history, biographies, financial and life advice, non-fiction and science fiction.
My least favourite book? Facebook 😂

Yep and when I frequented thrift shops the book section was where I spent the majority of time. There’s not only something about connecting with the book itself, but also silently connecting with the one who held it and lived in its words before you.

I didn’t purchase this one, but it touched me nonetheless because of the journey I felt tied to it.

My Christmas gift to myself was brand new though...[image deleted]
@PerfectionOfTheHeart Amazing! Thank you for sharing. Another excellent place to find old books for bargain prices is the library. Sometimes they sell their older books to make room for newer ones, and I’ve bought some excellent finds for $.10 and $.25. Such as a first edition Ian Fleming James Bond novel, which I gave to a friend because he’s a fan.
Terrific pics btw, looks like you have some gems there.

I’m a big time reader. Real books only, not ebooks.
@Ghostinthemachine

There is that. Less tiring than a book to hold up in bed too. And if one arm is trapped by a bedmate or an adorable pet you can hold it in one hand and turn the pages with your nose!
@Pikachu all excellent points! Also much quieter than turning a page🤫
@Ghostinthemachine

lol that too
Yes, every day for at least an hour.
I far prefer books to reading online.
@hartfire that’s so good of and for you!
JustNik · 51-55, F
I love books! I know a kindle would be great, but it’s just not the same for me. 🤷‍♀️
@JustNik Defintely an option for me as well. I coulda, probably shoulda...but still doing the “take the glasses off and squint” dance for now 🤓
JustNik · 51-55, F
@Ghostinthemachine it would be a hard conversion but better than no reading at all! 😄👍👍
@JustNik I was considering getting progressive lenses, but I've heard mixed reviews on them from people that have them
I love books and buy way more then I can keep up with. Although I prefer the feel of a book I also have an ereader which is convenient and light enough to carry in my handbag.
@Notladylike Sounds like you’ve got the book situation taken care of. I also have a stack of unread, “to get to” books for a rainy day. Someday...

The ones I read with my class.
SW-User
@Ghostinthemachine Not as much as last year. Guts and gore are where it's at.
@SW-User I might have trouble sleeping both in class and afterwards 😱

I do like me some reading. I've got a couple books on the go at the moment.
@Pikachu that’s like me, reading several books at the same time, my mood determines which one I pick up that day
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
I still read books.
I've listened to a few too.
@rottenrobi I will never stop reading books, until I have to
yogibooboo · M
Avidly!! All non fiction.
@yogibooboo I have to say I read a lot more non-fiction as well.
Piper · 61-69, F
Yes. Every time I visit my local public library, there are other people there checking out books. :)

I rarely buy books, unless I know it is one I know I'll want to read more than once or give as a gift.
@Piper It's always an internal debate with me whether to re-read a book or start a new one.
I love libraries as well.
thepreposterouspanda · 31-35, M
I do indeed! I got two Vince Bugliosi books over the holidays, and another about a Polish soldier who infiltrated Auschwitz... to add to the others I'm already trying to get through hahaha. It's a good place to be though. :3
@thepreposterouspanda good for you, and yes, I love that place, especially when you have the time and place...it’s perfect
I listen. I like audiobooks. They’re Easier for me to process.
@MorbidCynic I’ve tried those. A lot really depends on who is reading and their voice
Jlhzfromep · M
Real books, preferably hard back, are the best by far
@Jlhzfromep I agree. But they don’t travel the best.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
Love books. Not e ones though lol
@Gangstress same here
What about a, b, c or d books?😆
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@Ghostinthemachine lmao silly 🤣
Deesa123 · F
Yes i enjoy reading
@Deesa123 how could you not, ammarite?
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Do they still sell physical books out there
@smileylovesgaming they are terrific hand me downs, the gift that keeps on giving :)
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@Ghostinthemachine oh yes even a couple of my daughter's like to read.
@smileylovesgaming that’s awesome, good to get them enjoying reading at an early age, and it will stay with them their whole lives, like me :)
You make it sound like “book porn” 😂

I do enjoy reading 📖
@Ghostinthemachine yes you should 😁
@Somewhereovertherainbow Or maybe a short story to Literotica “I usually don’t talk about my personal experiences, but this one I just had to share, and it’s ALL true...” 😆
@Somewhereovertherainbow In a way, it is. There is profound pleasure in reading.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I love reading books and books for Christmas are one of my favourite presents. I like when I get a variety of genres.
@JimboSaturn same, I think I’m known as the book
Guy at Christmas, and I couldn’t be happier🤓
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
Yeah I've got a bookcase and everything
@CheshireCatalyst how many books do you estimate you have?
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@Ghostinthemachine maybe a hundred?
@CheshireCatalyst You should open a neighborhood library!
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
definitely still read books
@DoubleRings that makes me happy to hear :)
@LittleTinks that’s terrific!
PinkPunk · F
books are a passive medium.. games are way superior
@PinkPunk I don’t claim to know much, but the poster above, Rooster seems to, and he reads plenty
PinkPunk · F
@Ghostinthemachine i had to read a lot of books in school... all acclaimed masterpieces... and every single one of them sucked. the protagonists are boring and really nothign is interestign about them. character development is stale and the metaphers used are ridiculous and completely open to interpret in the weirdest ways
@PinkPunk reading is probably least enjoyable when you are forced to do it, like anything. There are plenty of books of all subject matter, that I wouldn’t rule the entire format out.
Might I suggest one that I think you would enjoy? Ready Player One, about virtual gaming, but the stakes are life and death!
exexec · 61-69, C
I always have at least two books going at once: a light fiction and a nonfiction or more complex fiction.
@exexec yep, I like to mix things up as well, depending on what I feel for that evening
Not really anymore
@ExperienceDLT Is there a reason?
@Ghostinthemachine no real reason and to be honest I should get back to reading may start back with some Stephen King stuff

@SW-User That looks awesome! I am a huge WW2 history buff, and my favorite game to play was Axis And Allies, first the board game with my buddies, then the CD Rom version, and then I bought the online version from Steam. Very impressive work my friend
