I Would Easily Spend a Whole Day Curled Up With a Good Book

I wanted to instill a love of books into my children. I think the first reason I loved reading as a child myself was because it was an escape from the real world, a place where time moved on far to fast for me but I could lose myself in fantasy land and be somewhere else. I always did have a vivid imagination. You can be anything you like as a kid, superhero, a mermaid, wizard. Growing up has it's advantages, but I will never forget what a joy reading gave me as a child and I hope both my children never forget either.

hold off on ever giving them a smartphone.
it opens a pandora box of stupidity.
book reading falls off and navel gazing skyrockets.

They won't be getting any smart phones until they old enough to pay for them themselves!

@donnaforte: very nice.

Well, if you make their reality unpleasant enough, they'll probably want to escape into books all the time. Not perhaps the best way, though 😆

I wouldn't do that. I think children have enough horrors to face without parents making life hard for them. But it seems to have paid off, they do share a love of books as well as other creativity such as drawing and painting.

And there is no replacement of a good old hard copy book and the bonding that is created with it while we read. No gadget can match that.

I can easily identify with this. I love to lose myself in a great read, as well.
