I Believe Everything Happens For a Reason

The phone rang last night at 7:00 PM. It was my youngest brother's number calling, so I answered. I was shocked at what he told me.

"I'm just calling to tell you that Marie and Dennis' house caught fire and burned to the ground."

Just that one sentence. Marie and Dennis are his wife's parents. I had only met them a handful of times. They were - still are - nice people. They live with their one unmarried son, who has Bi-Polar affliction and walks around talking about the Lord and Jesus. He is my nephew Ryne's godfather (I am the godmother) and he has always been friendly toward me, but as much as I value and respect my religion, I am uncomfortable being around someone that talks about the Bible all day. I only associate with him when necessary. (I know, that sounds terrible. But he makes me nervous.)When I got over my shock of the news, I asked a couple, three questions.

What happened to them? Where did they go? They were being housed in someplace called the Allstate Arena (yes, that's Allstate Insurance Company), because, thank God, Dennis had kept up with the insurance payments) and they were going to handle the entire thing.

Did they get Daisy out? Daisy is Marie's dog. Yes, she was safe, too.

How did it happen? The son had gone to bed and left a candle burning all day and night. Something (I still don't know what) caught fire and the house burned down.

The brother probably can't help what happened, but I don't think he should be in a normal living situation. If this could happen once, it could happen again. He should "go away" for a little while and be where he can be supervised and not a danger to himself or to others.

Bridget (my sister-in-law) and my brother agree with me. He must be slipping and maybe his Bi-Polar medication isn't working anymore.

I told him to keep me informed. I was a little shook at something like this happening to someone I knew.

But everyone says there's a reason for everything - and this is one of them.

That麓s really terrible to hear and must have been a shock for all of you. Luckily all are safe, that麓s the most important thing. I will keep my fingers crossed that there will be a good and fast solution for the family of your brothers wife. 馃崁

@RobinPhoenix According to what Ken tells me, the insurance company's taking care of it all.
