I Might Be In Trouble

The short 10 minute walk from school today seemed way longer than it usually is. With a detention slip tucked away in my backpack, I expected the worst when I got home.
I arrived at the house to find my mom in the living room, reading a book. She came and gave me a big hug and asked about my day. I told her it was busy and that I had a lot of homework that I needed to do. So, I just went up to my room and got started on it.
About an hour later, dad pulled into the driveway. I heard him come in and greet mom. By now, I had finished a good portion of my homework. I grabbed that stupid detention slip out of my backpack and headed downstairs. Dad was in the ba<x>sement so I went down there to talk to him.
He immediately asked me if I had a good day. I told him that I got into a bit of trouble at school today. He looked at me, and I was so scared he would get angry. He looked and saw that pink paper in my hands. He knew right away what it was. He asked me to hand it over, so I did. I could see the disappointment in his eyes. He asked me why I lied about all my homework being finished. I was scared! So - I lied. I told him that I just forgot about the math homework. I had so much homework over the weekend that I just...forgot. I told him I finished all the homework for my other 4 subjects on time (not a lie...necessarily). I could see he released the tension in his shoulders. He asked if I had any homework tonight. I truthfully told him yes, and that I had been working on it. He asked me to bring it down to the dining room, and told me I couldn't do anything else until it was all finished, and he was going to check.
I was so relieved! I think I have managed to get out of this one! I gave him a hug and ran upstairs to grab all my homework. I got most of it done by the time supper was ready.
After we finished eating, I got right back to my homework and it was finished in no time at all! I even managed to catch up on the math homework that got me into trouble in the first place. I offered to help mom with the dishes. While we were doing dishes, mom asked me if everything was okay. Truthfully, everything is not okay but I wasn't about to tell her that. I told her I was fine and just a little stressed from the day. She seemed to accept that as a good enough answer.
Once the dishes were done, I went up to my room to just be alone. I honestly feel bad for lying...then lying some more to cover the first lie...and lying more to hide my feelings about all the lies. It's quite overwhelming.
Having been alone with my thoughts for maybe 20 minutes, I hear a knock on my door, then my dad comes in. I was just sitting on the bed with a book and he came and sat down beside me. He gave me the signed detention slip and told me to be more careful with my homework. He gave me a hug, and left my room.
It definitely could have been a lot worse, and it would have been if dad knew that I lied. He really is the best dad ever, I love him so much and I hate disappointing him. Hopefully after tomorrow, I can put this whole thing behind me and it will never come up again!

It sounds like you learned from this and that having to lie wasn't very nice and didn't make you feel very good. It doesn't sound like you needed to get into any more trouble and I'm glad your dad was ok about it (even though he didn't know the whole truth). You sound like a nice girl.

Thank you. I did learn from it and I do try hard not to disappoint people, sometimes I mess up though. I can't be perfect - but I can definitely be better!
