I Consider My Pets Family

We had a dog, a crossbreed Border Collie/Spaniel, she was the runt of a farm litter and lived with us for 12 years.
As I went to work one morning, she sat in her bed looking at me (the same every day), and I patted her head as I left.
Later that morning I got a phone call from my (now ex) wife to tell me that "Lottie" was dead. As I had passed her that morning, she had suffered a seizure, and the vet put her to sleep.
I was working in London, and drove the 60 miles home like a lunatic, just to see her. When I got there they had buried her in our garden, under a Lilac tree, and I just sat there until dark missing her.
As an adult, I shed a tear in selfish pain, remembering the happiness we shared.
15 years later, I still think of her and the life she lead, hoping that we had added something to her short life. Her look was unique, and I would never try to replace her.

I had a similar experience with my chow .She was really old ,i came home to find her lying with her head in her food dish .All she would do is look at me ,no tail wagging ,no barking .I called the vet they said bring her in tomorrow, being an outside dog i made her comfortable and went to bed in the middle of the night i hear her barking ,something she has not done for days .I got up went to her ,she was still down but wagged her tail a little ,i sat and put her head in my lap she licked my hand on last time and just stopped breathing ,i believe she knew and wanted me to be with her so she used everything she had to bark . I still tear up when i think about that night
How nice to see you, my friend. Runts often make the best pets and family. This was a sweet story.

@PoetryNEmotion Hi honey, lovely to see you too.
You have had your share of heartaches, so I hope life is dealing better cards for you now.
@Uncfred I continue to learn. I wish the lessons could be easier, but such is life. Thank you.

My wonderful cat died last November, at the age of 15 and a half. She was with me almost 8 years. I miss her so much. I still talk to her early in the morning, our favorite time together.
